How Do I Minimize Bruising from a Rhinoplasty?
Closed rhinoplasty is minimally invasive
Oct 27, 2018
Hi,Bruising is multifactorial: 1. Your tendency towards bruising – this is hereditary. How to avoid? You can’t change your genetics.2. Medications such as NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, etc.) and blood thinners (coumadin, Lovenox, etc.) that predispose to bleeding/bruising.How to avoid? Don’t take these medications within 2 weeks of surgery.3. Surgical invasiveness: open rhinoplasty is more invasive as compared with closed rhinoplasty. How to avoid? Closed rhinoplasty minimizes…
How can I find the best rhinoplasty surgeon?
How to find the best surgeon
Oct 27, 2018
My advice in how to find the best rhinoplasty surgeon is the same for any procedure: Credentials are critical: training at top institutions and Board certification in Plastic SurgeryExperience is everything: preferably a decade or more of high volume aesthetic surgeryCommunication: your surgeon should spend time with you to ensure you are well informed and expectations for the result, recovery and risks are aligned. Results: reviewing multiple before/after results gives you a sense of the su…
Would I be a candidate for bulbous nasal tip correction?
“Closed” rhinoplasty is effective, scarless and 7 days of recovery
Oct 27, 2018
Hi, Yes!  Your nasal tip can be narrowed and refined by performing “cephalic trim” (removing the wide part of the tip cartilages), and tip cartilage narrowing.  You can enjoy a beautiful result with a “closed” (aka “endonasal”) rhinoplasty approach which involves hidden incisions within the nostrils, no visible scar, minimal swelling/pain and less than a week of recovery. Look at my photos for examples of wide, bulbous tips. Open rhinoplasty approaches are suboptimal as they involve a visi…
Rhinoplasty Swelling
Patience is a virtue
Feb 10, 2018
Hello,The 3 main factors with persistent swelling are (1) if you had an extensive procedure (with osteotomies and major reshaping), (2) if you had an “open” rhinoplasty (visible scar underneath the nose), and (3) if it you had a corrective rhinoplasty, then swelling can last many months. Although certain easy things can help, such as elevation, icing and a taping regimen, the most important is time.  Patiently waiting for your tissues to heal is the only effective strategy.  Best of luck.
Post Rhinoplasty: Why Does my Nose Look Bigger Than Before Surgery?
Proportion is everything
Feb 10, 2018
Hello,In rhinoplasty proportion is everything. When the upper bridge (called “radix”) is reduced, then the nose can look longer and the tip larger.  Although swelling at one month after open rhinoplasty is common, it looks like the proportions of your nose have changed which is why your tip looks larger. If you still have concern at 6 months then a revision may be needed.  Best of luck.
Rhinoplasty Recovery Time and Downtime?
“Closed” vs “open” rhinoplasty: a big difference in recovery time
Feb 10, 2018
Rhinoplasty recovery depends on how invasive surgery is and I agree that it depends on the extent – for example, osteotomies (bone fracturing) causes bruising and swelling. However, when comparing techniques there’s a big difference in recovery between “closed” approach (hidden incisions, minimal dissection and the least down time) and the “open” approach (visible scar, maximal dissection and the most down time). Months of tip swelling and a visible scar, hallmarks of the open approac…
How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?
Rhinoplasty cost depends on many factors
Feb 10, 2018
Rhinoplasty cost depends on many factors including region of the country. In DC the cost of rhinoplasty ranges from $4500 – $10,450 with an average cost of $7600, and higher for corrective work.  However, price is less important than the training (did your surgeon train and top flight institutions?), Board certification (American Board of Plastic Surgery or Facial Plastic Surgery),  and experience (number of rhinoplasties performed annually). Finally, the technique your surgeon uses is i…
Whether to get nose fillers? Or actual rhinoplasty? Wanting to slim my nose down.
Surgical rhinoplasty is needed to reshape your nose
Feb 10, 2018
Hello,Non-surgical rhinoplasty involves filler injections which are useful to hide a hump (which you don’t have), but there are not useful for slimming or or reducing the tip. A surgical rhinoplasty is best to address your concerns. I recommend a combination of tip cartilage reduction and tip grafts which will give the appearance of a slimmer, more defined tip. Adding grafts (cartilage) to the upper bridge (called “radix”) to make your tip look smaller. This can be done by filler, but sin…
