36 Year Old Man Treated With Male Female Breast Reduction Surgery By Dr. J. Howell Tiller, MD, Pensacola, Florida

Male chest recontouring surgery is one of the most common procedures that Dr. Tiller currently performs. A great number of men suffer from what is known as "the male breast," or gynecomastia. Many men think they are the only ones with this condition. However, a large percentage of pre-pubescent boys have this condition, but most of the volume disappears as they mature. The term “gynecomastia” refers singularly to the fibrous tissue of the chest, which is more localized to a position underlying the nipple area. Very lean men or body builders may have very little or no fat on the chest wall, but gynecomastic tissue may still be readily seen as a protuberance on the center of the chest perhaps extending onto the side of the chest wall. Many men have a large volume of fat in association with the fibrous tissue resulting in an almost breast-like appearance. Procedure: Dr. Tiller developed a technique that removes tissue using an incision well-hidden, high up in the armpit so there are no deforming scars on the front of the chest. If only a small volume of fibrous tissue is present, the tissue can be removed under local anesthesia. If the chest is larger and consists of both fat and fibrous tissue, a combination of lipocontouring removal of the fat and direct removal of the fibrous tissue is performed while limiting any scars on the front of the chest. Except for the smallest amount of tissue, chest contouring is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. After surgery, the patient wears a compressive garment for a length of time that depends on the size and scope of the procedure. But usually, a patient can be back to full activities including gym work and running within 3 to 4 weeks. (Sep 5, 2019)
