Rhinoplasty dried blood in nose
It is normal to have dried blood at the nares after rhinoplasty. I have patients us nasal saline spray 4 times daily and clean the area gently with saline soaked gauze.
This will help prevent further crusting and hopefully help you breath better. (Donald Nunn, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Keeping your nose clean and moist will speed the healing process
It is normal to have dried blood in your nose. The blood usually accumulates around some of the sutures inside your nose used to close the incisions. It is best to keep your nose moist by placing Vaseline or antibiotic ointment with a q tip inside your nostrils three times a day.
This should be preceded by cleaning your nose with q-tips soaked in peroxide and sniffing saline spray. The peroxide will dissolve the bloody scabs and the ointment will prevent them from building up.
Keeping your nose free of crust will hasten healing and will also make it more comfortable during the initial healing period. These crusts are mostly gone by the first to second week.
I have my patients continue to use the ointment and saline spray for a total of 6 weeks. This will allow for the sutures to dissolve inside your nose in a timely manner. (Ran Y. Rubinstein, MD, Manhattan Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Accumulated dried blood in the nose one day following a rhinoplasty
An accumulationof dried blood inside the nose following a rhinoplasty is very common.
It can also make breathing through your nose more difficult and is somewhat unsightly for some people. Prodding and poking around to remove this blood can lead to some consequences that you would not be very happy with including precipitating additional bleeding, breaking sutures and even disrupting some of the results.
Instead, you should call your plastic surgeon and inform him of this issue. He can then either provide you with some instructions on care or even may decide to see you in the office earlier than your planned next appointment. (Steven Turkeltaub, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
Dried Blood in Nose Day after Rhinoplasty
Saline nasal sprays will be helpful, but I suggest you simply call your surgeon who will remove the blood for you. (Richard W. Fleming, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Is It Okay to Clean Dried Blood Inside Nose a Day After Rhinoplasty?
This is a question most appropriately posed to YOUR surgeon. “Nose Excavation” shortly after rhinoplasty is not a good idea if you do not know what you are tugging on. You may undo some of the internal stitches. If you are uncomfortable go see your surgeon and have him remove some of the clots. You will be much safer this way. (Peter A. Aldea, MD, Memphis Plastic Surgeon)
You should not touch your nose at all until your doctor tell you so. Usually, you do not touch inside your nose at all. Just rest and take your meds and apply ice pack as directed by your doctor. Sometimes, thing work out well if we follow our surgeon’s instructions than try to get others miles from us telling us what they think you should do. If you trusted your doctor to do the surgery, trust him to take care of you afterward. Call him first. (Mohsen Tavoussi, MD, DO, Newport Beach Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Dried blood after rhinoplasty
You should consult with your plastic surgeon before attempting to clean the inside of your nostrils after a rhinoplsty because you don’t want to harm the incision site.
Usually some neosporin applied to the incision can help soften the scab and make it easier to remove, but again, ask your doctor. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Removing dried blood after rhinoplasty
Always better safe than sorry poking and prodding around after any type of surgery, at least until your doctor gives you the go ahead after you see him/her back for an initial post-op visit. (Ryan Stanton, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
