Rhinoplasty Cost For Medical Reasons
Rhinoplasty Cost
Costs will vary depending on many things including area of the country, experience and reputation of the surgeon, and amount of work that needs to be done. In general, surgeons fees will vary from $2500 to $5500 for a primary rhinoplasty and $4100 to $9000 for a revision.
This does not include OR and anesthesia. That said, this is probably the cosmetic procedure where you should focus least on cost. Most cosmetic surgeons would agree that rhinoplasty surgery is the most challenging.
It is important to go to a surgeon where nasal surgery is a major part of their practice-something they do several times a week or month rather than a few times a year. Ask to see before and afters.
You can be assured that by consulting with a board certified facial plastic surgeon your are meeting with someone who has trained on and is focused on rhinoplasty. (Mark Hamilton, MD, Indianapolis Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Fees for rhinoplasty depend on surgical facility, type of anesthesia and specific list of procedures performed. Some surgeons are able to address significant nasal airway obstruction issues during the same surgery as the creative sculpting required during rhinoplasty.
Examples include straightening the septum (septoplasty), reducing the size of the turbinates (turbinate reduction) and structural grafting to open up the nasal airway (nasal vestibular stenosis repair). If there are significant nasal airway concerns insurance may cover this part of the surgery (the rhinoplasty is almost always an out of pocket or fee for service cosmetic procedure) and related portions of the facility and anesthesia fees.
Some surgeons have higher fees for revision rhinoplasty because the surgery is generally technically more demanding and lengthy due to scar tissue formation and the frequent need for cartilage grafting to provide shape and support. As other surgeons have already stated rhinoplasty is a complex surgery – quotes should be specific to your particular needs. (J. David Holcomb, MD, Sarasota Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Cost of rhinoplasty
I charge anywhere from $4,000 – $6,000 for the procedure plus additional costs, $2,000. (Henry Mentz, MD, Houston Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Rhinoplasty Cost
I know that the cost of a rhinoplasty is obviously a very important factor for patients. However, as iterated again and again it this forum, it should not be the deciding factor for who you select as your surgeon. The “average” rhinoplasty varies from patient to patient. Everybody starts off with a different nose, and everyone has different aesthetic goals – there are, of course, some aesthetic principles that apply to everyone, but it is important to find a surgeon who has in depth knowledge in functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty.
Ultimately, the total expenditure would be a function of how much work needs to be done and how long that takes. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ 2013 statistics, the average cost of a rhinoplasty is $4,545. This does not include anesthesia fees, operating room fees or other expenditures; I would estimate this would cost of rhinoplasty at least an additional $2,500 to $3,000 at minimum. That would mean about $7,000 – $8,000 total expenditure for the “average” rhinoplasty. (Ashley B. Robey, MD, Indianapolis Plastic Surgeon)
Don’t focus on cost.
A surgery of any kind on the nose usually runs several thousand dollars. It will also cost you the recovery time and your lost time working and socializing. One good surgery at a reasonable price has a value much higher than a few dollars of cost saving if the surgery is not done correctly.
Surgery is not a commodity. No two surgeons do exactly the same thing. Your nose, being in the center of your face, is no place to price shop. Choose a surgeon who you can communicate with and who shows you plenty of their own before and after pictures. (Stephan Finical, MD, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
It depends on the needs of the patient, some people need less work than others or viceversa, it is difficult to be able to determine a price without a prior evaluation but just to let you know a range it could go from 2,000 to 4,000 dlls. (Luis Suarez, MD, Mexico Plastic Surgeon)
The Cost of a New Nose
As you already know, the customized nature of each plastic surgery procedure makes it impossible to apply a “price tag” to any of them. Indeed, your doctor’s geographic location does come into play when pricing rhinoplasty, but so do many other factors.
The surgical methods he or she uses, the type of facility where your surgery is performed, and the complexity of your procedure can all affect the final cost of your rhinoplasty. I’m not sure where you’re located, but here in San Diego, where I practice, rhinoplasty procedures tend to fall between $4,000 and $10,000.
