Redness and Firmness 6 mos. following breast reduction
Sep 7, 2016
Thank you for the question; since it has been some 6 months following your breast reduction surgery, most of the early problems such as hematoma and infection should be past; however, you mentioned moving heavy objects, etc. could you have possible “bruised” your breast?  Occasionally we see areas of “hardness” and tenderness in the reduced breast: also called ” fat necrosis” and this could spontaneously appeared or been aggravated by your activity.  I would recommend you see your plastic s…
How Do I Get the Crater That Was a Birthmark off and Make my Nose Look Normal?
Indent in nose
Feb 15, 2012
Dear YBP:

From what I am seeing, I am guessing that there is no other pigmentation around this indent; that is it wasn't for example a hemangiona that has involuted: if it is not too deep, it might be possible to dermabrade the area (sand it down) however there can be some (usually temporary) pigment problems that accompany this; another solution would be to do a very concise excision of this "dent" (which will be a little longer than the indent) but it could…

I Had a Mole Biopsy and the Report Result Are Below. Should I Worry? Should The Mole Be Removed?
Dear Frank1234
Feb 15, 2012
Pathology reports can be fairly confusing to patients, and frankly although I spent some time during one of my residencies at a pathology referral institute; I also find that they often speak a "foreign language". However in this case your report indicates a lesion or "mole" that has some worrisome features, and while not an invasive cancer (yet) ; because of residual on a lateral margin; it requires further excision. Don't panic but do get back with…
Normal To Swell Same Day As Restylane Inejection?
Injection swelling
Feb 15, 2012
The observations you noted are all "normal" for this procedure; as others have noted; your best course of action is to elevate your head (especially at night) and apply ice at frequent intervals: "baggies" with crushed ice work well. The amount of swelling and duration vary; but should improve after several days to 1-2 weeks.
Is It Possible to Have a Septorhinoplasty Done and Insurance Cover It 100%?
Septorhinoplaty and insurance coverage
Feb 15, 2012
Hello VKtoriaG:

This is a tricky question; in my experience, the septoplasty is often covered because of airway concerns; and some "straightening" would probably occur as result of addressing the previous trauma via "rhinoplasty"; a lot of this would depend on the individual insurance company: how they would view this. Despite the trauma and the fact that these were accidents, they might still view the rhinoplasty as strictly…

Do I Have Tuberous Breasts?
Tubular breast deformity
Sep 12, 2011
From your photo, I would agree with others that you have some of the elements of tuberous breast deformity; but it is mild; you don't have the extremely tight constriction at the base of the breasts, nor the significant herniation around the nipple areolar complex area. If your desire is to have enhancement of your breasts (augmentation); your plastic surgeon can discuss with you your specific anatomy, and he/she will probably make some adjustments (as discussed by others)…
Is It Possible to Reduce the Nostrils on a Big Bulbous Nose??
Nostril adjustment in large nose
Sep 12, 2011
From your photos, I think you can come close to what you may be looking for. Narrowing the nose and refining the tip can certainly help, but remember that living tissue does not act the same as our manipulations with computer imaging. If your skin is a little thicker and more oily" it will take longer to reslove the swelling and may not reflect the changes done to the nose quite as well as thinner skin. I certainly would take your photos with you as they form the basis…
I Am 76 Years Old, Can I Get A Facelift?
Facelifts after age 70
Sep 5, 2011
As baby boomers turn 70; we will be seeing a lot more people like you, and happy to deal with this problem. As others have noted, key to this situation is your physiologic rather than chronologic age. You can get some very nice results for patients in their 70's but also may need some additional work to deal with the texture and quality of the skin; remember facelifting will reposition and lift the soft tissue, but not necessarily improve the quality of the tissue- this may respond…
Is 650cc Implants Too Big for Me?
Size selection for breast augmentation
Sep 5, 2011
I would recommend spending a lot of extra time with your plastic surgeon discussing the look you want to achieve; there are real limitations presented by a person's specific anatomy and situation which may or may not limit the choice of implant; only one of the facors to be considered; others being position of the nipple in relation to the inframammary fold, the elasticity of the tissue, the adequacy of the soft tissue, etc. In other words, the process is not as simple as simply…
Not Sure if I Am Supposed to Get Arm Lipo or an Arm Lift? Pictures Included.
Arm Lipo vs Arm Lift
Sep 2, 2011
Hello Kristy: As best I can tell from your photos I suspect you would do best with an arm lift; you can get a nice shape and I usually find that shape will trump the scar for most people. But by all means, seek expert opinion from consults with board – certified plastic surgeons familiar with this surgery. In recent years, I have become a bigger fan of brachioplasty and not found the scarring to be as bad as most patients anticipate, particularly with good placement of the…
Am I a Candidate For Implants Without a Lift? Photos Attached.
Augmentation with or without Mastopexy
Sep 2, 2011
From your photos, you definitely will need a lift; it is difficult from pictures to get an idea of the "quality" of your soft tissue, which is important in making recommendations for you. Best to get a number of opinions with board-certified plastic surgeons, and share your concerns and goals; pick one that you are comfortable with. You really may do best with a two-stage procedure if your desire is to be really large; a lift can be done first to reposition the nipple…
How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Light Glycolic Peel?
Glycolic Peel recovery
Aug 31, 2011
These peels in general do not penetrate too deeply, and therefore recovery is usually fairly quick; obviously the higher strenght peels may require a little more time. The timing of the peels also needs to be coordinated with your other skin care product regimen, e.g. the use of retinoids (Retin A type products), I usually schedule these peels about 2 weeks apart. Check with you skin care specialist
How Soon Can I Use Retin-A on my Nose After Having Open Rhinoplasty and Nasal Tip Plasty?
Use of retinoids after nasal surgery
Aug 31, 2011
Because of the irritation from scrub solutions, adhesives, taping, and possibly incisions, I would wait several weeks before resuming the Retin A treatments, it might also be prudent to start with every two to three day treatments; then gradually increasing the treatments. I would also check with your nasal surgeon.
How Should I Fix my Previously Broken Nose?
Previously broken nose and options
Aug 31, 2011
A rhinoplasty would definitely improve the appearance of your nose; the operative plan would most likely involve rebreaking the nose ( osteotomies) and probably some adjustments with the cartilage framework including cartilage grafts, possibly so-called "spreader grafts", and possibly some further adjustments of the septum; I would certainly get several opinions from board-certified plastic surgeons conversant with rhinoplasty, and let them "walk you through" the…
Should I Go Submuscular or Subglandular?
Submuscular vs Subglandular
Aug 30, 2011
I would probable recommend a high profile implant- either saline or silicone- because you could get a little more projection with a smaller diameter device. I would also recommend placing it submuscular; I believe this so-called "dual plane" approach would accomadate this implant a little better, and may better address concerns regarding "capsular contracture" . I would discuss this thoroughly with your plastic surgeon, and get another opinion if needed. Best…
