Fillers can absolutely be used to balance asymmetry of the face, such as small chin. Your options include standard hyaluronic acid fillers (We prefer Restylane products in our practice, but many injectors use Juvederm products). Bellafill is an excellent product for chin and smile lines! We use a lot of Bellafill in our practice,  and I very rarely see lumps. Studies actually show reduced incidence of complications like lumps with Bellafill compared to other fillers. The advantage of Bellafill is the 5 year duration. In my experience, Defyne does tend to last longer in the lips. I attribute this to the superior elasticity of the product, which allows it to move with your mouth muscles, so it does not get broken down as fast. I find (in general) lip fillers last 6-12 months, and Defyne lasts 8-15 months. I have a subset of patients for whom all of the fillers last for 6 months, and I believe – as Dr. Emers notes in his reply – that youth and activity level can affect duration of filler.

Your question does not state how long ago you had the filler injected, but if it has been at least 2 weeks and it looks asymmetric or fuller on one side then you should go back to your injector, who can treat it. Defyne works very well in the chin area, and offers good support, but if more was put on one side it might appear fuller. If it has been less than 2 weeks, I recommend waiting to see if the swelling/lump goes down. Best of luck, and I hope you enjoy your results in the end!

I have never found any evidence that alcohol consumption has an effect on filler duration. I have found some people in whom filler does not seem to last as long as others, but  I think it is multifactorial and related to one’s genetic make-up.

I would not proceed with a third IPL session this soon after sun exposure, as your melanin levels are higher and it could cause burns. Your provider could give you a regimen of topical hydroquinone to help lighten up your pigment before your next IPL. So sorry you did not like your lip filler experience. Hyaluronidase will work no matter when your product was injected, but it is very expensive so most offices charge for it. We do it free of charge if we were the original injectors of filler, but otherwise we charge for this procedure,. You could check with the injector who did your lips initially. Hyaluronic acid fillers will not last for two years in the lips, though. Your body will break down HA fillers in the lips over 6-12 months.
