How do I go about starting the process for an ethnic rhinoplasty?
How do I go about starting the process for an ethnic rhinoplasty?
Nov 16, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your reported symptoms and your photo, it could very well be that the swelling you are experiencing is related to an infection in your frontal sinuses. I would strongly encourage you to make an appointment with a board-certified otolaryngologist as soon as possible for a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. I wish you all the best!

I’m wondering if my job is safe for me long term?
Oct 12, 2018
I appreciate your question and your concern. While the chemicals used in your work are strong, they are not likely to affect the outcome of your sinus surgery. However, if you notice ongoing issues after you recovery fully from your procedure, talk to your otolaryngologist about whether you might need a steroid spray for the nose to counter some of the effects of the color formulations. Nasal rinses are another option for keeping the nasal passages clear. I encourage you to discuss your…
Clear mucus 2 1/2 weeks post op. Is this normal?
Is this normal?
Oct 12, 2018
Thanks for your question and I understand your worry. Let me reassure you that drainage from the nose may continue for a few weeks after sinus surgery. If you have not developed new symptoms, such as bleeding, swelling or pain, it is likely this side effect is completely normal. Nasal rinses at least twice a day should help to reduce that symptom faster. That said, I would encourage you to contact your otolaryngologist to discuss your concerns and determine whether you should come in for an…

How much to correct?
Oct 12, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. While it is impossible to diagnose you without an in-person consultation and a thorough examination, it does sound like your symptoms could be treatable through a variety of surgical and nonsurgical options. I recommend you make an appointment with a board-certified otolaryngologist that is specifically trained to address sinus-related issues. A deviated septum, enlarge turbinates and chronic rhinitis are just a few of the difficulties you might be…

Is it normal to have a lot of sinus pressure and extreme lethargy after ballon Sinusplasty?
Oct 12, 2018
Thank you for your question and I am sorry you are experiencing these side effects after balloon dilation. While the large majority of patients are able to return to their daily routine within 48 hours without significant discomfort, that is not the case for every patient. However, if you are experiencing substantial pressure and fatigue one week after your procedure, I recommend you contact your physician for an in-person assessment to ensure no complications have developed. I wish you all…

Should I still go ahead and have the procedure done?
Oct 12, 2018
Thanks for your question and I understand your concerns. While it is true that congestion from a cold can increase your risk for complications related to anesthesia, in some cases, waiting for the sinuses to fully clear before surgery is not practical. Your best bet is to discuss your concerns with your otolaryngologist before surgery to decide whether it is best to move forward with surgery or wait until your symptoms subside. I wish you all the best as you move forward with your sinus surgery!
Is it possible to do anything about chronic post nasal dripping?
Is it possible to do anything about chronic post nasal dripping?
Oct 12, 2018
I appreciate your question and I am sorry you are suffering with this issue. Post-nasal drip is frequently caused by a sinus condition known as rhinitis, which is inflammation of the inner nasal cavities. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options for rhinitis that will help you manage the condition and reduce your symptoms. Treatment might include medication, lifestyle changes and home remedies. Our office now offers a nonsurgical solution known as ClariFix, which cools inflamed…

I am having a sinus surgery in 7 days – can I have a tattoo on my hand now?
Oct 12, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. Since your hand is considerable distance from your sinuses where your surgery will be performed, you are likely safe to get the tattoo before your sinus surgery. However, the process of tattooing does increase your risk for infection, as well as taxing your immune system. To be absolutely safe, I would advise holding off on the tattoo until after you have recovered from your sinus surgery. However, I also recommend talking to your surgeon to determine…
Does sinus surgery invole anything with any of your turbinates?
Does sinus surgery invole anything with any of your turbinates?
Oct 12, 2018
Thank you for your question and I understand your concerns. Turbinates are structures inside the nasal cavities that warm and moisten the air as it moves through the sinus passages. If the turbinates become enlarged, they can become a source of nasal obstruction, in some cases requiring surgery to correct the problem. While turbinate surgery has been linked to empty nose syndrome, not every surgery will lead to this condition. I strongly recommend you seek out the services of a…
Is having a constant stuffy nose normal? I always feel like I’m halfway breathing through my nose.
Is having a constant stuffy nose normal?
Oct 12, 2018
Thanks for your question. The short answer is that a constant stuffy nose is not normal and the good news is there are many treatment options to manage this condition and enjoy easier breathing. I encourage you to make an appointment with a board-certified otolaryngologist that is qualifies to perform a system of diagnostics that will pinpoint the cause of your congestion. From there, you can work together to come up with an effective treatment plan that might include medications, lifestyle…

I was told by my ENT that I needed 3 surgeries.
Oct 12, 2018
I appreciate your question and the x-rays you included with your inquiry. While it does appear from your films that you have some issues that need to be addressed, a recommendation of three surgeries does seem extreme. I encourage you to talk to a board-certified otolaryngologist with ample experience in diagnosing and treating sinus problems to obtain a second opinion. That physician is likely to suggest both nonsurgical and surgical treatment to correct potential structure abnormalities…
I have huge nasal septal abscesses on both sides of my nostril. What are treatment recommendations?
What are treatment recommendations?
Oct 12, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. Nasal septal abscesses do not typically require surgery, but they should be diagnosed and treated quickly to avoid further complications. I strongly encourage you to make an appointment with a board-certified otolaryngologist as soon as possible for an accurate diagnosis. If abscesses are indeed the problem, prompt drainage and antibiotic treatment will be necessary. Best wishes for a prompt diagnosis and effective treatment protocol.
I had some kind of sinus surgery for sleep apnea in 2004. What can I do about breathing problems?
What can I do about breathing problems?
Oct 12, 2018
Thank you for your question and I am sorry for your frustrations to this point. There are treatments available for breathing issues like you are describing, but without additional information and an in-person consultation it is impossible to make an accurate diagnosis and provide you with treatment recommendations. I advise you to see a board-certified otolaryngologist with extensive experience in sleep apnea and related conditions to obtain a precise diagnosis of your condition. At that…
Small holes on the roof of my mouth?
Small holes on the roof of my mouth?
Aug 7, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. What you are describing sounds perfectly normal and was likely there before your surgery. You probably didn’t notice them before since you weren’t as focused on the roof of your mouth. I would say that if your doctor did not see a problem, you don’t need to worry. However, if you develop symptoms or the holes appear to get larger, I would certainly schedule another evaluation to determine the underlying cause. Good luck!
How long off work after sinus surgery?
How long off work after sinus surgery?
Aug 7, 2018
I appreciate your question and understand your desire to return to work as soon as possible. However, most patients require seven to 10 days of recovery time after sinus surgery before they begin to feel ready to tackle their daily schedule. At this point, you should start to try to transition from the narcotics to Tylenol or another comparable pain medication, which will allow you to function more efficiently. It is also critical that you follow your surgeon’s instructions on after care t…
