Can temporary nose fillers give a permanent effect?
Permanent filler injection into the nose
Jun 17, 2019
Overall, temporary filler injections will not give a permanent result, even in the nose.  While some of the "effect" may not totally disappear over time, regular injections of temporary filler is more or less required to maintain the look you would like.Bellafill is a potential option as a filler for a more permanent result in your nose.Importantly: you particular situation is more complicated because you have had previous surgery to your nose.  I highly recommend you see a surgeon who perf...
What would be best for my tear trough fillers? Juvederm or Restylane? How many cc?
Best product and amount for the under eye
May 23, 2019
Restylane and Belotero are the two best products for the under eye.  I find that Juvederm tends to swell too much and make the area look puffy.  You want a product that will look smooth and natural without looking "full."Most patients require less than one 1 cc (1 syringe) of product for both eyelids.  Some patients require a little more than 1 cc.Injecting with a cannula or small needle are both good techniques for the under eye area.  I recommend that you visit a physician who is an exp...
Do internal facelift stitches dissolve?
Internal facelift sutures
May 6, 2019
Depending on the surgeon and technique, some sutures under the skin may be dissolvable, some sutures may be permanent.  Either suture is a safe option overall.Sutures that are dissolvable typically take 3-6 months to fully disappear.  Permanent sutures remain under the skin, and you should not be able to feel them.X-rays and other imaging will not be able to "see" any of these sutures.A suture near the greater auricular nerve is not dangerous and can stay there without any issues.  Only if...
How long do I need to wait after a total knee replacement to consider getting a face/neck lift?
Facelift around the time of other surgery
May 1, 2019
While there are not standard protocols when it comes to doing a facelift around the same time as other surgery, it is a good idea to make sure that all of your surgeons know your plans.  Based on the location and extent of your other surgery, it may be advisable to wait a few weeks to a few months.  Other surgeries could actually be done at the same time (if your surgeons were able to find a way to be available!).Facelifts do not carry a higher risk of infection compared to procedures like j...
Why not as youthful look after lower facelift? Could it be my skin?
Facial Rejuvenation
May 1, 2019
Getting to a more youthful look is almost always multi-factorial. No single procedure necessarily gives you the "youthful" look you are looking for, however, each option is an important factor in getting you to the look you want.Your photos show that you have had a successful lift and have gotten the changes that we expect from a lower facelift and upper eyelid lift.I agree with your assessment that your skin could also benefit from a procedure.  Remember that a facelift is all about ...
When can I use self-tanner after a facelift?
Self-Tanner or Makeup after a facelift
May 1, 2019
Wait until your incision areas are fully-healed and "watertight" before applying tanner or makeup to the area.  The most common recommendation is 4-6 weeks after your surgery. This will prevent any of the product from potentially getting into the incision area, which can cause tattooing of the skin.If you are not certain whether you have healed enough for tanner or makeup, I recommend having your surgeon see you and assess your healing before you proceed.Best of luck!
1 week post-op. The doctor didn't raise it as high as I wanted. How soon can I get revision direct
Revision of a direct browlift
Mar 22, 2019
Waiting at least 9-12 months after your initial surgery is ideal.  The healing process takes time and the scars you currently have can effect your overall result, if you revise the area too soon.  How scars heal varies from patient to patient, but good meticulous closure can help hide any noticeable scars, regardless of how much "larger" they are.
Follow-Up Question: How would you know if you had permanent nerve damage after a facelift?
numbness after facelift
Mar 19, 2019
Numbness around the ear after a facelift is essentially an expected part of the recovery process. The little nerve endings that provide sensation are divided when the skin is elevated to "look under the hood" and perform the lift. After the skin is put back down in place, it takes weeks to months for those nerve endings to regenerate back into to skin.  Having numbness after one month is very common and normal to this point.  Most patients will experience sensation return over 4-6 months.Go...
Will this go away or will I need a revision?
Swelling after surgery on the neck
Mar 15, 2019
Surgery in the neck area can create swelling that can take several months to totally resolve. Gravity tends to make swelling settle in this area, therefore, it can be one of the last areas for swelling to go away.  In some patients, the "final result" will not be apparent for 4-6 months.  Patience and your compression garment are your best keys to getting to your final result.   Best of luck!
I had otoplasty as a child, is it possible to reverse it as an adult?
reversing an otoplasty
Mar 6, 2019
Depending on the techniques used in your original otoplasty, a surgery could be performed to help "reverse" your result.  If some permanent sutures were placed initially, these can be removed. Scarring of soft tissue that is holding your ear too close to your head can also be released.  These maneuvers may improve your result and at least partially reverse what was originally done.If the curvature of your cartilage is more permanently fixed, this may require some reshaping.  In addition, if ...
Has anyone seen this nose cartilage loss/splitting before?
nasal cartilage changing
Feb 12, 2019
As we age, the cartilage of the nose can become weaker, droop, or change in shape. Everybody ages differently, and it is possible that the changes you are seeing are due to how your nasal cartilages have aged over time.  Because you are continuing to see these changes progress, you would likely benefit from a rhinoplasty to increase the support of the nasal cartilages.  Using cartilage grafts (most often from your septum) to build a better support structure for your nose would be helpful in...
Would a facelift address my chubby cheeks and deep nasolabial folds?
facial structure vs. aging
Feb 12, 2019
Fullness to the cheeks can contribute to the appearance of deeper nasolabial folds.  Based on your age and photos, it appears that this is the natural structure of your face and not due to aging or drooping of the soft tissue.  A facelift addresses issues with true aging and would not be a good choice for you.You are blessed with full cheeks!  Enjoy them, as cheek fullness is a great contributor to a youthful appearance.  Many patients desire filler to achieve cheek volume like yours.  In a...
My surgeon pressed an instrument on my nose when he changed the cast. Will this change the shape o
removing the cast after rhinoplasty
Feb 4, 2019
When removing a cast on the bridge of the nose after rhinoplasty, adhesive remover is used often to loosen the very sticky tape (under the cast) that is placed on the nose.  If the tape does not come off easily, a small wire loop or other instrument, can be slid under the tape to loosen it.  If your surgeon pressed on your nose with the instrument, it can be very uncomfortable.Without any aggressive pressing or manipulation of your nose, any negative effects on the shape of your nose is u...
What are 3 most important criteria for identifying the plastic surgeon with expertise in facelifts
Criteria for a facelift surgeon
Jan 30, 2019
Criteria, or questions that I think are important:1) Does the surgeon specialize in plastic surgery of the face?  Are the majority of the surgeries he/she performs facelifts?  Does he/she have a lot of experience doing facelifts?2) Does the surgeon communicate well with me?  Am I comfortable that he/she is recommending a surgery/technique that will give me what I am looking for?  Will he/she following me closely before, during, and after the procedure?3) Are the proven results from the surg...

Treating the fine lines of the under eye
Jan 30, 2019
Fine lines of the under eye are very common. The skin here is very thin, so treat it carefully and conservatively.A good place to start is a retin-A cream or an under eye cream with retinol.  This can be applied daily and is a good way to maintain the skin in this area.A more aggressive treatment of this area includes laser.  Laser treatment in this area is very delicate and should be done by a physician who is an expert in the eyelids.  Have a consult with a physician you trust and co...
