Thanks for the question. Sometimes distinguishing between a mole and wart can be difficult especially in an area where the lesion may often be rubbed or traumatized. A simple shave biopsy for pathology should be able to provide a diagnosis. Other skin lesions such as seborrheic keratoses (which are benign) can also occur across the body and mimic both a wart and a compound nevus by visual inspection.

When moles are removed, they can sometimes grow back with an irregular appearance. If the mole is benign we typically call this a recurrent nevus.
