Will insurance cover part of a rhinoplasty if it includes a deviated septum revision?
Insurance coverage for combined cosmetic and functional nose surgery
Jul 26, 2020
Thank you for your question. This is a VERY common question and comes up weekly in my practice. Insurance will likely not cover any part of an operation that is not important for you to breathe better. However, as you are seeking combined cosmetic and functional improvement to your nose, a surgeon may choose to reduce the cost of your cosmetic component since your insurance will also be billed for the functional portions of the operation. In our practice, we typically reduce cosmetic…
What are the signs and symptoms of a broken nose?
Broken nose: signs and symptoms
May 26, 2019
Broken noses are the most common facial fracture.  A nosebleed at the time of injury is a sign that your septum internally has suffered some damage but this does not necessarily require any treatment unless your nasal breathing is affected.  External bruising, a new bump on the nose, crookedness are the most common signs for nasal bone fracture.  However, possibly even more commonly is a separation of the upper lateral cartilage from the nasal bones which is still a “broken” nose but will be…
Rhinoplasty Recovery Time and Downtime?
Rhinoplasty: Recovery
May 26, 2019
This answer may differ from surgeon to surgeon but here is my take:1.  I recommend no strenuous activity or heavy lifting over 10 pounds for two weeks after surgery and no contact activities (activities that can damage your nose such as contact sports, etc) for 3 weeks after surgery.2.  No nose blowing for 1 week\\3.  Patient are typically happy and not very self-conscious with the appearance of there nose at 3 weeks after surgery, but swelling will persist for months afterwards and sl…
My Nose Doesn’t Look Any Different from Before my Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty: bump or hump reduction
May 26, 2019
Your question is a good one.  If you desired significant reduction in your dorsal hump (which would have been a mistake in my opinion since your hump was not too large to begin with), then typically at three weeks it can be quite noticeable.  If only slight/subtle changes were made to your dorsal hump, this can takes weeks/months to show the true result.  Being patient is one of the hardest parts of having rhinoplasty performed, but your surgeon and his/her staff is there to help you  thr…
Follow-up question: Is the tip of my nose going to fall after months or years after the surgery?
Rhinoplasty: Tip droop, ptosis, under-rotation
May 26, 2019
The rotation of your nasal tip can be changed during rhinoplasty with a variety of maneuvers.  Age and gravity, however, are difficult variables to overcome that unfortunately we have no answer for…yet.  Therefore, your tip of your nose will likely droop some over time but it can be lifted and strengthened in the desired position during rhinoplasty thus making the process of tip droop slower over time.  Hope this helps.
Considering rhinoplasty. Told I have thick skin and may need ear cartilage. Advise?
Rhinoplasty: Thick skin and ear cartilage
May 26, 2019
Based on your photos, it does appear your skin is on the thicker side thus there are some limitations to the degree of tip definition that can be achieved.  However, thick skin is not all bad!  Your skin will more easily hide minor imperfections after rhinoplasty thus in some ways making cartilage grafting  more possible without drastically affecting the look of your nose.  Ear cartilage is commonly used in rhinoplasty especially when there is not enough septal cartilage available.  For my p…
10 months post-op. I have nostril asymmetry that my doctor says can’t be revised. Is it possible
Rhinoplasty and Asymmetric Nostrils
May 26, 2019
Thank you for this question.  Nostril shape is difficult to change even when a surgeon would like to make changes to it.  Most people have slightly asymmetric nostrils at baseline but fortunately this is only noticeable mostly when looking upwards at a person from below which is an uncommon view.  It is also quite common for patients to notice much more about their nose or other facial features after surgery compared with before.  I typically provide pre and 1 year postop photos to pat…
What procedures could I have done to improve/feminize my profile- but not too dramatically? (Phot
Rhinoplasty: softening and “feminizing”
Oct 28, 2018
You are spot on with your self-analysis which is great!  Reducing your chin projection would be great for your profile.  In addition, softening your nose would certainly enhance your profile further.  The good note is that adding the rhinoplasty does not add to your recovery time with a chin reduction.  We use 3D simulation in our office which is perfect for simulating changes from all different views and angles which I would highly recommend for you so you know what to expect.
I have a bulbous nose and I’ve been wanting to get a nose job, am I a good candidate?
Rhinoplasty: bulbous tip
Oct 26, 2018
Based on your photos it is very possible to refine your nasal tip and obtain a very nice result for you.  Several tip refining maneuvers exist that will work very well for you.
Can my desired change of the nose be accomplished with a closed rhinoplasty?
Open vs closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty
Oct 26, 2018
Hump reductions are often done with closed approaches alone but sometimes to keep the test of the nose in harmony open approach is recommended for additional refinement.  Hope this helps.
Is this bulking of my bulbous nose mild rhinophyma? Does my skin look too thick for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty and bulbous tip
Oct 19, 2018
Yes it is possible for you to get a nice rhinoplasty that looks natural on you.  Based on your skin type it is important to not reduce you tip to much but rather define some of the structures on your nasal tip more so that they show through your thick skin nicely.  (I.e. a restructuring of your nasal tip rather than reduction and refinement).
Nostrils were even before rhinoplasty and now they’re not? 5 weeks post-op.
Rhinoplasty: nostril shape
Jun 9, 2018
Many patients may benefit from your question.  First, let me reassure you that it is still too early to make any definite conclusions.  Second, the degree of assymetry is very small and  within the margin of error that experienced rhinoplasty surgeons strive for.  Healing is a difficult variable to account for in rhinoplasty; this is why no rhinoplasty is ever truly “perfect” but rather “very good.”   If the problems persists after 6 months, let your surgeon know about it, but I’mot sure ev…
How can I fix my nose bridge? It looks weird from the side, and it makes my face look wide. (Phot
Rhinoplasty: wife nasal bridge
Jun 9, 2018
Your question is common among many patients seeking rhinoplasty.  First and foremost, your true profile is difficult to tell from the pictures.  What you desire is likely a less wide and more defined nasal bridge without the bump on the bridge. This is all achievable by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon.  A good consultation by a surgeon who does a lot of facial and nose work will be very important for you. Hope this helps!
Can dermal filler create a nose dip?
Filler rhinoplasty
Apr 12, 2018
Fillers can be used to alter the shape of the nose quite effectively, however, it all depends on the nose shape and what is desired.  In your case, keep in mind that fillers can only add volume but not subtract anything.  So yes, the supra tip depression (or break) can be created in your case but that would be projecting your tip much farther than ideal in order to get this result.  The bulbosity of your tip could likely be softened some with correct filler placement.  Hope this helps!.
I had septorhinoplasty 5 weeks ago and the bruises under my eyes will just not go away. Is this n
Septorhinoplasty bruising under eyes
Apr 12, 2018
Bruising under the eyes after septorhinoplasty typically goes away in 3-5 weeks, however, it is quite common for the bruising to persist longer for several weeks.  Just be patient–it will go away.  You can try wearing makeup to help cover it up.
