Both paper tape or silicone strips or other modalities can help prevent scar hypertrophy. The choice depends on the preferences of the operating surgeon. So you need to ask your surgeon about this at the time of your preoperative consultation.

The swelling continues to settle for 3 to 6 months and therefore your breathing also improves further with time. Please continue the nasal irrigations till the return becomes clear. Thank you for writing to RealSelf.Most likely cause for the ‘bump’ is an inner suture which is closer to the skin surface and there is increased reaction around the suture. As the suture becomes absorbed the bump will likely disappear. Please continue regular check ups with your PS to make sure that it is not a troublesome suture which needs to be removed by a minor superficial procedure with local or topical anaesthesia.

Once the scabs separate the extent of necrosis will become more clear and with local care you will go on to full healing with only minimal scarring after the scars have matured. At three weeks I advise them that they do not have to wear a brassier when sleeping.
