Rhinoplasty – Deviated Septum – Singing Voice?
rhinoplasty and singing
Jan 12, 2013
Addressing the external component should have little to no effect on your voice. There are two types of “nasal” voices, hypernasal and hyponasal. A hypernasal voice is almost always due to dysfunction at the junction of the nasopharynx and oropharynx, usually the palate. This is rare and most well-trained singers are adept at manipulating this junction (if not, they wouldn’t have a pleasant singing voice, they would hiss a lot as air continually leaks out the nose). A septorhinoplasty would…
Bone Protruding Beside Nose After Rhinoplasty?
post rhinoplasty
Jan 12, 2013
The picture is very limited; however, any picture taken with in the first 6-12 months will be fairly limited, as soft tissue swelling can not be adequately assessed without a physical exam. When subperiostial dissection is extended this laterally, edema in this area is great and takes quite some time to resolve, as it is the only route for lymphatic drainage of the nose especially after an open rhinoplasty. It is unlikely that the bone itself is actually in a different position than preop,…
What Could I Do About my Crooked Nose?
Crooked nose
Jan 12, 2013
Without a physical exam I can’t say for sure that your septum is not crooked, but based on the picture it looks like the left middle third of your nose is more concave than the right giving the illusion of a crooked nose. This is easily address with a spreader graft between the septum and left upper lateral cartilage. I personally have no specific age limit, but there are three things I look at. First and foremost, if I can’t address the nose without affecting its future growth I will defer…
Rhinoplasty Question?
Drooping tip
Jan 12, 2013
Your picture shows a drooping tip where the infratip lobule is below the columella. This is not a bottom bulbous tip. This is due to lack of support for the cartilages that make up the tip, so gravity pulls them and the soft tissue down. A bulbous tip is due to the size of cartilages of the tip and to a lesser extent the thickness of the soft tissue. Correcting a bulbous tip will not affect a drooping tip and vice versa. Like a big hump, bulbous tip, or twisted dorsum, correction of a…
Is It Possible to Make the Nose Less Droopy Without Making It Longer?
Droopy nose
Jan 11, 2013
Rotation of the tip superiorly or elevation of both lower lateral cartilages in their entirety usually resolves a ptotic tip while actually decreasing the length of the dorsum. To preserves this, it is extremely important to provide sufficient support by anchoring the lower laterals to the septum or placing a strut graft. Pictures would be extremely helpful.
Reduction of Middle Turbinate Can Cause Nose Bleed?
nose bleed
Jan 11, 2013
Although unusual, epistaxis can occur after surgery from turbulent airflow or uncompensated increased airflow causing the nasal mucosa to dry and crack (similar to chapped lips). This is more common in dryer climates and in the winter. The frequent utilization of nasal saline spray usually alleviates this. If it persists despite proper moisturization a thorough nasal examination by an Otolaryngologist is indicated.
Facial Redness After Facelift?
Redness after facelift
Jan 10, 2013
These symptoms often occur in the areas where the skin is elevated in the subcutaneous planes. If this flap of skin and fat is thin than any irregularities in the underlying tissue is visible. There are almost always minor irregularities here, as this is where the true “lift” of a facelift occurs. These settle out over the first six months. When the skin is elevated it turns into what we call a random pattern flap. That means the blood supply comes from where it is still attached and is…
I Used Biore Pore Strips 21 Days Post-op?
Biore Strips after rhinoplaty
Jan 10, 2013
It is extremely unlikely you caused any permanent damage. However, the act of removing the strip could have caused negative pressure within any potential space leading to fluid accumulation (which is softer than if the soft tissue was directly adherent to the bone). This is not a problem if there is no graft localized to this area. If you have a radix graft it is possible it could shift but unlikely. It is best to have your surgeon evaluate this area.
Otoplasty Asymmetry?
otoplasty
Jan 10, 2013
The structure you are describing is called the cauda helicis. I routinely remove this with my otoplasties, as it can stick out like you describe. It is possible this was removed and there is residual swelling. Give it another month or two. If it persists it is easily removed under local anesthesia.
What is the Most Advanced Method of Maxillary Sinus Cyst Removal?
Sinus cyst
Jan 10, 2013
If you are describing a mucous retention cyst in the maxillary sinus there is no reason to do anything unless it is blocking the opening of the sinus. This is easily addressed endoscopically. Once again, though, these are 99.9% incidental findings on imaging and of no clinical significance. Definitely discuss this with an Otolaryngologist.
Postable for a Ethnic Girl(African America) To Get A Megan Fox Nose?
African American rhinoplasty
Jan 10, 2013
It absolutely depends on what you are starting with. The only true limitation to achieving a nose similar to hers is skin thickness. However, it is extremely important to ascertain whether this type of nose would match the rest of the face regardless of color. A long, narrow, well-defined nose works well with a long, narrow, well-defined face but would look out of place in an oval, fleshy face. There is also the question of ethnic preservation. Tyra Bank’s surgeon preserved her alar flair…
How Long Could It Take for my Nose to Reach Final Shape After Rhinoplasty?
Final shape after rhinoplasty
Jan 10, 2013
It is way too early to know what the final shape of your nose is going to look like. As I am sure your surgeon told you, it can take up to a year to achieve the final results. You can add an extra year for every revision. The edema of the upper 2/3s of the nose subsides relatively quickly, and the final appearance is readily apparent, as the underlying bone and upper lateral cartilages are flat. The lower lateral cartilages, especially the tip, are extremely complex, 3-dimensial structures,…
Can You Get the Flu Mist 2 Months After a Rhinoplasty?
Flu mist after rhinoplasty
Jan 10, 2013
I allow my patients to receive the Flu mist vaccine 6 weeks after rhinoplasty unless there is an obvious mucosal defect. In fact, before moving to Hawaii I practiced in an area with a high prevalence of influenza and provided the vaccine for my post op patients. However, this is something you should discuss with your surgeon.
Are there any cons assosicated with such a “full” rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty risks
Jan 10, 2013
This sounds like a pretty straight forward septorhinoplasty. It is much easier on you and the surgeon to do this all at once, as your nose is only opened once. As someone who specializes in revision rhinoplasty, I can assure you that each time I go back in it becomes more difficult and takes longer to heal. I usually find that if the surgeon had done everything indicated initially no revision would be necessary. The most overlooked aspect I find is not addressing the septum. Not only can…
How to Repair Old (Overlooked) Zygoma/Maxilla Bone when the Crack / Split Goes Through Infraorbita
Maxillary fracture
Jan 8, 2013
As this is an inherently weaker part of the bone it is common for blowout fractures and malar complex fractures to involve the infraorbital tunnel. Fortunately, damage to this nerve leads to sometimes annoying numbness but no physical deformity. Decompression of this nerve is easily performed from the orbital floor or maxillary sinus roof. If there is a depression from trauma I repair this with fillers or implants. On the rare occasion the malar complex (“tripod”) is rotated I place my…
