Asymptomatic veins should not be treated. You will also find that your insurance company will not cover the treatment of venous reflux unless you have symptoms. Over time, you may develop symptoms that begin to affect your life and then insurance will cover treatment. You should make sure to maintain a good weight and exercise. walking is one of the best exercises for your vein health.
I have an upside down "Y" vein near the tip of my nose. It looks a little larger than a spider vein.

I have been using lasers to treat nasal veins for years. I prefer the 1064nm laser for these but the 532 should also work well. The only significant risk is ulceration that can occur with lasers and also sclerotherapy.  You want to be suer you are going to someone that has significant experience treating facial veins.

The first things I would want to know is if you have a family history of blood clots and did they do blood work looking to see if you have a clotting disorder? I have seen multiple patients that were told there blood clot was caused by birth control pills but later on find out that they have a clotting disorder. I think your physician is being cautious because of your history of the massive PE. If your workup for a clotting disorder was negative, then prophylaxis is optional. I can not...
