Scar excision for atrophic scar on the lips, do I need another scar revision?
Scar Revision Upper Lip
Dec 28, 2018
Given that it has only been 2 months, I would give the scar time to fully mature before making any decisions on further course of treatment. Often times scars improve in terms of color and contour over the course of a few months to a year. I would also recommend you discuss your concerns with your surgeon so they are aware. They may recommend a topical treatment in the interim.
If the scar is not to your liking after 6 months – 1 year post procedure, then additional…
Revision rhinoplasty and perforated septum repair – combined surgery?
Revision Rhinoplasty and Septal Perforation Repair
Dec 28, 2018
I am sorry to hear about the septal perforation and difficulty breathing. Depending on the extent of the reconstruction, it is likely that you can have both procedures performed during the same setting to minimize downtime and recovery. I would seek a surgeon experienced in both cosmetic rhinoplasty and septal perforation repair. Make some phone calls to potential surgeons because not all plastic surgeons perform septal perforation repair. You may need cartilage…
My earlobes are really stretched out and long. What I need to do?
Earlobe repair
Nov 20, 2018
Based on your description, you would be a candidate for earlobe repair/reduction. This is a simple procedure which can be performed in the office with only local anesthesia. The redundant or stretched skin of the ear lobe is excised and the lobe is sutured together creating a smaller, more natural appearance. The piercing site can be incorporated in the incision if the piercing site is elongated to correct this as well. I typically wait 6 weeks before re-piercing the…
Is There Any Way to Get Rhinoplasty Covered by Insurance?
Rhinoplasty and Insurance Coverage
Nov 20, 2018
Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by insurance. However, if there are functional issues such as difficulty breathing through your nose as a result of a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse, then those portions of the procedure may be covered by insurance. Depending on your insurance, you would then only be responsible to pay for the cosmetic portion of the procedure, including the anesthesia and facility time.
Average cost of rhinoplasty from a good surgeon in San Francisco/Bay Area?
Cost of Rhinoplasty in the Bay Area
Nov 20, 2018
The cost of rhinoplasty depends on multiple factors and can vary based on location, physician, facility and more. It also depends on if the procedure is purely cosmetic or if there is any functional component to the procedure which may be covered by insurance. When it comes to facility and anesthesia fees, this is based on time. Thus, if the rhinoplasty is straight forward or less involved (taking down a hump only) then the time it takes to complete will be less and thus…
Is a brow lift the right surgery for me?
Brow lift
Sep 21, 2018
A brow lift is intended to reposition the brow to a higher, more aesthetically balanced position on the forehead. In females, this is above the superior orbital rim. It also improves the horizontal rhytids (wrinkles) on your forehead as well. Your brow height appears adequate in the photos without braids but if you like the appearance of the elevated brow and smooth forehead then a brow lift is an option for you. There are different techniques for brow lifting…
What are the best treatments for a double chin?
Double Chin Treatment
Sep 18, 2018
Thank you for your question. It is difficult to give a specific recommendation without a consultation or photographs. Treatment would ultimately rely on the underlying cause of the double chin appearance.
If the appearance is secondary to a small chin, then a chin implant may be reasonable. This is a permanent option which can be performed under local anesthesia in the office. However, if the double chin is due to excess submental fat, then liposuction would be…
3 weeks post upper blepharoplasty still have significant swelling, is this normal?
Post Blepharoplasty Swelling
Sep 10, 2018
It is normal to have residual swelling after upper blepharoplasty that can last for a few months. Based on your pictures, you appear to be healing appropriately for three weeks. The swelling and appearance of the scar will continue to fade. I typically tell people 3 months is the average time frame when most of the swelling has resolved. I would recommend you bring your concerns to your surgeon since they may recommend topical treatments in the interim to…
I had a mini-facelift 6 years ago. Is there a way to minimize the noticeable scars in front of my ears
Scar Revision
Sep 10, 2018
Your incisions were placed too anteriorly which makes them noticeable when your wear your hair back. In women it is advisable to place the incisions along the natural creases of the ear and behind your tragus (small cartilage protuberance closest to your cheek). This hides the incisions well and minimizes the chance of visible scarring. You could undergo a scar revision procedure to move the incisions to a more favorable location and in the same setting perform a…
Which type of brow lift would be most appropriate for me?
Which type of browlift is would be best?
Aug 28, 2018
Based on your photograph, I agree with previous posters in that you show signs of a receding hairline. Thus, any type of brow lift which also raises the hairline is not advisable (i.e. coronal). You could opt for a trichophytic brow lift, where an irregular incision is made along your frontal hairline. With this approach, you can even lower your hairline at the same time as the lift if desired. Downsides of the tricophytic brow lift however include scalp numbness and…
I have a recessed chin, would a chin implant be right for me?
Chin Augmentation
Aug 28, 2018
Based on your photographs, you are a candidate for chin augmentation. While fillers may sound appealing because they are non surgical and provide immediate results, the amount of filler needed for full correction in your case would be significant. Generally speaking, the most anterior (forward) portion of your jaw should lie in a vertical plane with the vermilion border (red lip/skin junction) of your lower lip if you are a male and slightly posterior to this plane if you…
Will Botox make horizontal lines above lips disappear?
Horizontal lines above lip
Aug 28, 2018
Botox works by selectively inhibiting muscle contraction. Thus, if the lines you speak of are due to muscle contraction and more prominent during expression, then Botox may help soften their appearance. If the lines however are more evident at rest, then Botox won’t provide much improvement. You are better off with filler, laser resurfacing or a lip lift. I recommend you see a facial plastic surgeon for an in person consultation. They can identify the cause…
Can Botox or fillers help the look of neck bands temporarily?
How to treat neck bands?
Aug 28, 2018
Botox is a great option to treat prominent platysmal banding. While a surgical procedure such as a lower facelift or neck lift would give you the most dramatic results, neuromodulator (Botox, Xeomin, etc.) treatment will soften your prominent neck bands. This may provide the improvement you are looking for before committing to a surgery in a few years. If your issue is due to general skin laxity and not necessarily the underlying muscle activity, Botox will not provide…
Can I have a lip lift 8 weeks after a closed rhinoplasty?
Lip lift after closed rhinoplasty
Aug 27, 2018
Every surgeon has their own preferences but I do not see any contraindication to having a lip lift 8 weeks after closed rhinoplasty. The incisions and areas of dissection for a closed rhinoplasty are separate from those for a lip lift. You may have prolonged swelling given the close proximity but that is not a definite. I recommend you discuss your plans with your surgeon(s) to make sure everyone is comfortable with your plan.
Good luck!

When I smile my upper teeth don’t show a lot, is a lip lift good for this?
Lip lift
Aug 27, 2018
A lip lift is a great option to increase the amount of visible upper teeth when smiling or at rest. There are different ways to perform the procedure and I prefer to use the bull horn incision. This incision is located just underneath your nose which makes the resulting scar unnoticeable.

As mentioned, you also have a transverse crease that forms on your upper lip when you smile which can be improved with a lip lift. I recommend you see a facial plastic surgeon…
