Will a Septoplasty Fix My Nose?
Septoplasty
Dec 1, 2017
Thanks for your question. Generally speaking a septoplasty is to improve the breathing of your nose, it may not have much impact on the appearance of the nose. To change the shape or look of the nose typically requires a Rhinoplasty procedure. Hope this helps.
Do I need any kind of septoplasty or anything for my nose? Just curious.
Septoplasty
Dec 1, 2017
Thanks for yuour question. A septpolasty is a very well tolerated procedure that is designed to improve your ability to breathe through your nose. There are other ancillary benefits such as decreased snoring, improved exercise tolerance and improved smell and taste. If you desire improvement in any of the above areas, you might consider a septoplasty procedure. Hope this helps.
I’m 5 days post op. I just laughed and now there’s a little blood that came down from one nostril.
nostril bleeding
Nov 22, 2017
Thanks for your question. While its impossible to know what is going on without an exam, your chances are good for this being only a minor issue. The more pertinent question is why you had nasal packing to begin with. It is generally necessary and uniformly uncomfortable for patients. That being said chances are the bleeding is minor, but please check with your provider. Hope this helps.
Does septum necessarily deviate in time after septoplasty?
Septoplasty
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question. In short, yes there are situations where the septum can re-warp to become closer to its original crooked position in the nose, however this certainly does not occur in every or even most septoplasties. The likely biggest contributor to the issue is how much septum is left behind or undisturbed. A more aggressive operation likely has less chance of re warping, however it may also have a slightly higher complication rate.
Septoplasty blowing nose and sniffing?
Sep
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question, difficulty to answer. What I can tell you as that most surgeon don’t recommend blowing that early, nor irrigating that soon after surgery. Hope this helps.
Septoplasty surgery risks?
Septoplasty
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question, however I feel there must have been a slight miscommunication with your provider. It is possible that they were referring to the technique of removing the entire septum, straightening it, and then returning it to its natural position. This is known as an extracorporeal septoplasty.  There is no such technique of just removing the septum, this would result in disastrous lack of support of the nose. Hope this helps.
How long does it take to totally heal and breath better from a deviated septum surgery?
Septoplasty
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question. Generally speaking the results of a septoplasty should be apparent once the splints or whatever else from inside the nose is removed. Hope this helps clarify
is it normal to have swelling 3 weeks post balloon sinuplasty.
Balloon Sinuplasty
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question. While it is impossible to know what is going on without an exam, from what you say it does not seem that your congestion and infectious issues have been addressed with balloon sinuplasty alone. It many cases more traditional but still minimally invasive surgical techniques are needed to improve symptoms. Hope this helps.
My packing in my nose moved, should I be concerned?
Packing
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question. However the more pertinent question is why do you have nasal packing to begin with. Nasal packing is often very uncomfortable while its in, it is excruciatingly painful to have removed, and it is completely unnecessary. To answer you question, no there is likely no reason for concern other than it may be unpleasant to have removed. Hope this helps.
Two months since balloon sinuplasty and now bleeding when I blow my nose?
Ba
Nov 20, 2017
Thanks for your question. While it is impossible to know what is going on with you without an exam, it sounds as if you are having a typical response to just balloon sinuplasty. In many situations the results may only be temporary due to the nature of the technique using balloons. The bleeding may be a result of the dryness of the air in winter, especially indoors. Please consult with your local sinus surgeon for specific details. Hope this helps.
Pulled Dissolvable Stitch out After Rhinoplasty
Dissolvable stitch
Aug 28, 2017
Great question. Not to worry, this is a very common occurrence. Dissolvable is a poor name for these type of suture, they don’t dissolve so much as unravel. When they do the ends stick out, it is perfectly ok to pull them out at that point. Hope this helps.
Why does my nose whistle when I breathe?
Whistling
Aug 28, 2017
Thanks for your question. I am sorry to hear you are having this problem. In my experience whistling usually means either a crusting problem or likely a small perforation (hole) in the septum. I would recommend addressing your concerns with your surgeon.
Is Having Your Splints Removed After Rhinoplasty/septoplasty Painful?
Splints removed
Aug 28, 2017
Great question. Having the splints removed is probably best described as mildly uncomfortable and cathartic. Meaning for a split second it hurts as they come out, but it feels so good once they are out it seems worth it. Plus chances are you will  breathe much better than before the surgery as well. Hope this helps.
What is the Ideal Age for a Rhinoplasty?
Ideal age for Rhinoplasty
Aug 28, 2017
Great question. Essentially there isn’t so much an ideal age, as an ideal set of qualifications for the patient. Meaning as long as someone has a firm grasp on the goals, consequences and realistic expectations then they are likely an appropriate candidate for nasal surgery. This might be as young or younger than 15, or it might not be until closer to 18 for some young people. Other factors may influence the age of surgery as well, for instance if the parents or a parent is pushing a child…
How Soon After Rhinoplasty Can I Fly or Exercise?
Rhinoplasty
Aug 28, 2017
Good question. Ideally you would have a full week before either flying or exercise. In reality many patients come from out of town, thus in our practice we typically insist on 4-5 days after surgery. There is very little risk in flying other than some discomfort from severe pressure and congestion and of course bleeding. Occasionally patients can have severe nasal bleeding in the first days to even week after surgery. The same is true of exercise, there is no inherent danger other than…
