There are a variety of causes for a patient’s lower abdomen to enlarge following a tummy tuck. These include swelling of the soft tissues from fluid retention, a fluid collection or “seroma” of the abdominal wall, pregnancy changes, and others. Seromas are very common following tummy tucks and can be drained in the office to remove any extra fluid. It is best for a patient to return to her surgeon for another post-op visit to evaluate the swelling.

It is likely that much of your upper abdominal fullness is due to swelling in this very early post-operative period. You may, however, benefit from secondary liposuchion in the midriff area. It is not safe to do liposuction in that area at the same time the abdominoplasty is done, do the circulatory issues.
