Turbinate reduction post septoplasty?
turbinoplasty after septoplasty or rhinoplasty
Mar 9, 2018
Yes! Turbinoplasty can absolutely be considered after a septoplasty or rhinoplasty. This can be a wonderful, minimally invasive procedure with little downtime that can improve nasal breathing. I even do this in the office under local anesthesia and it is well tolerated by a patients. There are many ways to do turbinoplasty and some are better than others, so be sure you understand this and consult with an Ear Nose Throat specialist who does this regularly. Some of the...
Hump on nose result of old injury. Worried “non-surgical” nose job will make my nose look even mor
Fix bump on nose without surgery?
Mar 9, 2018
The 'non-surgical nosejob' has a lot of appeal in its name but it truly does have its limitations. It is generally nonpermanent and for your bump will enlarge the nose. A highly skilled rhinoplasty surgeon can provide you with a long lasting, permanent result. A short-term filler may be considered if you are not ready, but consult with an expert before taking that route.
Spider veins on nose and rhinoplasty?
spider veins on nose
Feb 28, 2018
This is very common. It's also east to treat! For various reasons, people can have small veins on the skin around the nose. It can be due to aging, sun damage, genetics, rosacea and other causes. After surgery, the inflammation of healing can make them more visible. We have a laser in the office that we use to treat our patients with if they appear after nasal surgery and is very effective.
Is fat transfer what I need?
hollowing under eyes
Feb 28, 2018
Fat grafting would be an option for the hollowing under your eyes. PRP and the incorporation of nanofat techniques may be some methods to maximize your results. While fat grafting has potential to be permanent, you could have some undercorrection. If you have had no treatment to that area, trying out a hyaluronic acid filler in that area is a good alternative safe option. Be sure you start with an excellent exam from a qualified surgeon.
Open vs closed rhinoplasty? (Concerns about scarring)
scar on rhinoplasty
Jan 31, 2018
I would do my best to reassure you that the transcolumellar scar that is used in open approach for rhinoplasty is rarely problematic. This is even the case for people who have a history of abnormal scars elsewhere in their body. The wide, hypertrophic scar on your back is quite common in the back location where the skin is very thick, wound tension is high, and technique to reduce poor healing issues is critical. Your back scar does not necessarily predict the same scar on...
Can I remove a raised mole on the tip of my nose?
Straightforward in the right hands
Jan 31, 2018
Precise excision by a skilled surgeon can usually yield an excellent result with an imperceptible scar. Be careful with shave excisions as I've seen many recur or yield an unacceptable scar. Lasers certainly can complement and improve the final result. A board certified facial plastic surgeon is a good starting point.
Should I be concerned that my surgeon (for rhinoplasty) is board certified in otolaryngology but n
What is board certification???
Jun 20, 2015
This is a great question and the answer may not always be clear. In
general otolaryngologists are trained on all aspects of the nose and
exposure to rhinoplasty is part of that. Most otolaryngologists see
much rhinoplasty during their training and are required to understand it
for their certification. However, the quality of that experience can
vary and some otolaryngolgists are more comfortable and capable than
others at rhinoplasty. A board certified facial plastic surgeon has...
My nose is slanted and split at the tip? What can I do about it?
Changing nose
Jun 5, 2015
There can be some changes to the nose that occur over time. The skin changes, gravity has its effects and the nose can droop. Also, the tissues can thin, including the skin and fat over the nose. The result is that you may see some of the underlying cartilage or bone and it looks more irregular. Many of these things can be addressed and starting with a thorough consultation with an experiences rhinoplasty surgeon will be your best first step.
Can people with thin skin nose take a nose surgery?
Thin skin and rhinoplasty
May 6, 2015
Thin skin has advantages and disadvantages, and rarely does it contraindicate surgery. Normal Healthy skin can adapt to the underlying changes that are made.
Tip refinement still bulbous. Would steroid injections help?
swollen nasal tip
May 6, 2015
I cannot see well from your pics but it is not uncommon that the nasal tip may still appear swollen at 3 months. There are a number of reasons for this ranging from thick skin to scar formation to structural and nasal. It would not be unreasonable to consider steroid injections and follow up over time. It could improve more over the next 6 months.
What should be the time frame between procedures? Rhinoplasty and breast lift
timing of additional surgery after rhinoplasty
Apr 29, 2015
Generally, you could do most elective surgeries at 3 months after rhinoplasty. In fact, they could be done at the same time for convenience.
Is it ok for my nose to be extremely stuffy after septoplasty?
Congestion after septoplasty
Apr 28, 2015
Congestion is usually a normal symptom after septoplasty and can vary from mild to severe depending on a number of factors. Some form of congestion can be seen for a number of weeks in some cases. Check with your surgeon if you have concerns specific to your case.
Trouble Breathing Through my Nose - Do or Don't Need Rhinoplasty?
Do I need a rhinoplasty for breathing issues?
Apr 22, 2015
In general, rhinoplasty is surgery done to re-shape the external nose. There are other procedures done to improve the internal breathing passages. These include septoplasty and turbinoplasty. So it can depend on your exam just what needs to be done. For example, a twisted nose may need correction so that you can breathe better. Your question may more be about the terminology and understanding what treatment is needed to improve your nasal passages. An otolaryngologist...
Why is One of my Nostrils Bigger Than the Other, but Yet I Don't Have Breathing Problems?
asymmetric nostrils
Apr 22, 2015
Your picture appears to show a deviated septum narrowing your left nostril. Sometimes this is an unacceptable appearance to people and sometimes it causes nasal obstruction. Patient's can report a variety of symptoms. A consultation may be worthwhile to fully examine the nose. There likely are treatments that would improve your condition.
Cost and Recovery to Fix Broken Nose and Deviated Septum?
twisted nose with congestion
Apr 22, 2015
The quick answer to your question is YES, surgery can fix many of your issues. How much is going to depend on your physical findings, how well any surgery is performed, the healing process, AND your expectations. The first thing is to get an expert evaluation. Otolaryngologists (Ear,Nose, Throat) are trained to assess the congestion and the snoring issues you have. You also need to see someone who performs a lot of rhinoplasty to assess the cosmetic concerns. ...
