Answer Snippet
Do bones swell after rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty postoperative swelling
May 23, 2010
After a rhinoplasty procedure, the thickness is a result of the swelling of the skin overlying the bone. The bone itself does not swell. It usually takes 6 months for the swelling to recede to visualize the final result.
How can I tell if my bulbous tip is able to be reduced?
Rhinoplasty and thick skin
May 23, 2010
Skin thickness will have an effect on the long term outcome of rhinoplasty.  Thicker skin will have a tendency to retain swelling longer and camouflage the final results of nasal surgery.   Most paients with thick skin will require a greater amount of cartilagenous support and a structure rhinoplasty approach.
Is it possible to remove Botox from unwanted areas?
Botox
May 23, 2010
There is no way to remove Botox from any area once it has been injected.  Depending on the dose used, it usually takes 2 - 3 months for the effects of Botox to naturally subside.
Callous on nose after rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty postoperative swelling
May 23, 2010
There is a significant amount of swelling 6 weeks after rhinopoplasty.  The callus formation or lump under the skin may also be swelling due to the surgery.  I would not reccomend massaging the nose at this time since it can possibly inhibit healing.  If the callus formation or lump is still present after 6 months, then it can be better evaluated at that time.
Is swelling post-rhinoplasty hard to the touch?
Postoperative rhinoplasty swelling is normal and lasts for at least 6 months
May 16, 2010
The hard peritip nasal swelling is usually what patients feel postoperatively.  The hard feel to the nasal tip and peritip area of the nose is the actual swelling.  If a graft was used, it would also contribute to the hard feeling.  Peritip swelling also is variable depending upon the technique.  Swelling will usually be more prolonged with thick skin and is usually greater and more prolonged after open rather than closed rhinoplasty.  However, one should wait at...
Septoplasty or rhinoplasty for crooked nose?
Deviated nose and endonasal rhinoplasty
Aug 31, 2009
Septoplasty alone will not fix a crooked nose. This will require rhinoplasty as well to either straighten the bones and or cartilagenous structures of the nose.  A closed rhinoplasty is always an option, and can be used to fix the deviation without external scars.
Genioplasty to increase chin vertical height?
Chin implant vs. genioplasty
Aug 31, 2009
Genioplasty is a procedure that moves the bone forward and will increase projection. However, a chin implant, which is simpler and a much smaller procedure will achieve the same goal, and in many cases is more advantageous. Each one does not actually increase measurablle vertical height. However, a genioplasty can provide the appearance of increasing the vertical dimension of the lower portion of the face. A chin implant can be placed in a way which will increase projection but not...
Difficulty closing left eyelid after Botox
Botox complications
Aug 31, 2009
Botox was most likely was injected into the frown muscle, but spread into the upper eyelid. If it spreads into the upper eyelid, it probably paralyzed the levator muscle which is responsible for opening the eyelid.
A partial return of function should return relatively soon (wihtin weeks), but may take as much as 3 months to regain full eyelid function. However, you can expect full return of function without any permanent complications.
Can a facial implant move around in your face?
Cheek implants do not move
Aug 31, 2009
If a cheek implant is placed in the right plane (i.e. the subperiosteal plane), it will not move. It is usually fixed in place by the surrounding tissues within 48-72 hours of insertion. After that, silicone implants are encapsulated and will not move.
Above vs under eyelid stitches for upper Blepharoplasty?
Upper blepharoplasty
Aug 11, 2009
The upper blepharoplasty, by definition, is the excision of the excess upper eyelid skin.  Therefore, the incision must be placed over the outside part of the upper eyelid.  When correctly performed, the incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease which leaves an undetectable scar.
What is platysmal suspension?
Submental Platysmaplasty and Chin Implant
Jul 27, 2009
After a certain age, submental liposuction can be counterproductive making the laxity under the chin worse. The platysma and neck skin sag together. In most cases, submental platysmaplasty is the best way to approach this problem. This procedure creates a muscle sling which will lift the neck. This will produce a long lasting jaw neck line without redundancy. However, if there is a true skeletal deficiency causing a weak chin, then a chin or mandibular implant is extremely helpful in...
