Dorsal hump reduction procedure
I would like to shave off my dorsal hump without changing my nasal tip. Is this possible/would I get a good result?
You are an excellent hump-reduction rhinoplasty candidate. This can be accomplished without altering the tip structure, though you should know that the tip may look slightly turned up during the initial healing period.
You did not include any base views, so perhaps the surgeon that recommended tip-plasty saw something that could benefit improvement.
Regardless, it’s your choice. I would recommend a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon so that your expectations can be reviewed. (Parker A. Velargo, MD, New Orleans Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Bump only rhinoplasty
From your photos it appears that would have a nice result by only reducing your bump without doing anything to the tip.
I’m not sure what the surgeon who wanted to alter your tip wanted ves to do to it. (Matthew Bridges, MD, Richmond Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Shaving off nasal hump.
It would be appropriate to shave the hump only. Do an imaging session with your surgeon to clearly delineate what will satisfy you.
You may entertain not doing anything surgical. (Darryl J. Hodgkinson, MD, Sydney Plastic Surgeon)
Dorsal hump
A dorsal hump can be removed with a closed technique. This means no external visible incisions. It’s called a closed rhinoplasty.
Sometimes if the hump is too wide or big you may have to consider something called lateral osteotomies to prevent something called an open roof deformity. Yet from the looks of the photos it may not be necessaryregards (Bryan Friedman, DO, Scottsdale Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Dorsal hump reduction procedure without tip work
Dorsal hump reduction procedire without tip work can certainly be done and makes sense in some patients. In others, tip work is also necessary. In order to determine what is most appropriate for each individual patient, the nose and face must be examined together, and this is best done during a consultation.
It is not really possible to tell what is most appropriate for you based on your photos. I recommend you return to one or both of the surgeons with whom you consulted and ask them to further explain their plan and then decide which best fits with your desired changes. (Josh Surowitz, MD, Manhattan Facial Plastic Surgeon)
You can just shave off the bump and leave the tip alone
Your tip looks great! I would leave it alone. The bump can be shaved down but the top of your nose would become a little wider that would require osteotomies to bring the bones in to narrow the nose up high. (Garrett H. Bennett, MD, Oxnard Plastic Surgeon)
You could get a rhinoplasty to reduce the dorsum only. It really depends on what bothers you. You should consider computer imaging during your consultation to be able to visualize what you would like to achieve. You can also consider doing a non-surgical rhinoplasty by using injectable fillers. (Yuly Gorodisky, DO, )
