What kind of medical procedure can fix my acne scarring between my eyebrows?
acne scarring
Sep 26, 2019
I am sorry that you have such tough scarring, even after several treatments. I always tell patients that if we can get scars 50% improved, we are doing well.  When we far surpass this, we can really celebrate. Because of your skin tone, the laser therapy was likely very little in order to avoid complications, so it was of little benefit. Each scar should be addressed individually, and so a combination of treatments may be best. Subcision with filler can be a great option for many patients …
Why is a fat transfer recommended for doing my lower blepharoplasty? And what will happen if I don’
Fat transfer lower blepharoplasty
Sep 26, 2019
Fat transfer lower blepharoplasty is a great procedure in the right patient. For patients with “heavy undereye bags” and deep troughs, the procedure can take down the hills while building up the valleys. However, for many patients, it is not the ‘be all, end all.’ The procedure can make the trough areas substantially better, but some patients may still require some filler there after for complete correction. The procedure is an advanced technique add-on. Some patients in fact are not great…
Is the hairline too conservative?
Is the hairline too conservative?
Jun 15, 2019
The importance of a natural looking hairline cannot be understated. For many patients, particularly younger patients, they prefer a hairline like they had when they were in their teenage years. However, if you take a look at men “hair loss,” you will notice the hairline is actually higher. The hairline should frame the face and provide balance to the face. A low hairline unfortunately looks odd and requires hair removal to correct.  I hope this is helpful.I wish you success with your …

Anesthesia for blepharoplasty
Jun 11, 2019
Dear Lisa,   For many patients, I perform blepharoplasty under only local anesthesia. We use lidocaine (Xylocaine is the brand name, just like Tylenol is acetaminophen). The remainder of the procedure is basically pain free. My last patient took a nap during the procedure, which is why I find sedation usually unnecessary. For some nervous patients, I offer an anxiety medication similar to ativan, and for patients that prefer more anesthesia, we can do it with active sedation in the oper…
My smile looks very forced and small would a lip lift help?
Candidate for a lip lift?
Jun 9, 2019
You actually have a short distance between your upper lip and your nose, so overall, you likely not be a great candidate for a lip lift. Lip lifts unfortunately can carry a relatively high rate of poor scarring, so should only be performed on patients that would truly receive a significant benefit. You may wish for a touch of filler for your lips instead. Feel free to contact my Milford office tomorrow if you wish for an appointment.Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD, @drericcarniol

Hair transplant disappointing results
Jun 9, 2019
I am sorry that you are not overjoyed with your results. Unfortunately, if areas did not grow into certain places, you may wish to undergo a medical workup for this issue. I am not sure if one was performed before your last surgery but it is very important to rule out other diseases that can cause hair loss. If another transplant occurs, and the disease not treated, the hair will not grow!I wish you success!Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD @drericcarniol
Safety of exchanging chin implant after 12 years?
Safety of exchanging chin implant after 12 years?
Jun 9, 2019
Dear Lisa,First, it sounds like your surgeon wanted to give you an honest appraisal of the risks of surgery. Those are definitely the risks, and anyone who does not disclose risks does a disservice to patients. As well, around an implant, the body can form a capsule. When this occurs, it usually means that the healing process will just take a little longer and more TLC will be necessary. I wish you success with your procedure!Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD @drericcarniol
Is a fat transfer absolutely necessary with a lower blepharoplasty?
Is a fat transfer absolutely necessary with a lower blepharoplasty?
Jun 9, 2019
Fat transfer is an optional addition to the lower blepharoplasty procedure.  In the lower eyelid surgery, fat is traditionally trimmed away. However, using the fat transfer technique, the fat is instead advanced into a hallow area, providing a “permanent filler” for deep hollows. For some patients, this will mean that they will not ‘need’ filler in this area, and for others, it will mean less in the future. Since the choice is either to trim the fat or advance it into a hollow area, it c…
How soon until I have my alarplasty scar treated with co2 laser?
Scar treatment with CO2
Jun 9, 2019
The most important thing about scar treatment is prevention and close follow up with your surgeon. Silicone gels can be very helpful for many patients. As well, your surgeon should monitor your scarring. Generally, keloids are uncommon after rhinoplasty but your surgeon should monitor to see if treatment may be helpful.
Can CO2 laser resurfacing be repeated? If so, how often.
repeat CO2 laser
Jun 9, 2019
It largely depends on the type of CO2 laser that was performed. If it was fractionated CO2 (short recovery period but overall less effect), then most likely yes. If you had the ablative CO2 laser (with up to a couple weeks recovery), then possibly no, and a different treatment may be necessary.I wish you success.Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD @drericcarniol

Rhinoplasty, neck lift, mid-face lift and lip lift. Are those too many surgeries at once?
May 21, 2019
First, the amount of surgery that is proposed is not capable of being done in 3 hours, at least not well. Surgery takes time and each and every step must be carefully measured and checked. Rushing through surgery is usually a recipe for poor outcomes.Second, the procedures that you are having done will change your look to a great extent, and so, this can be quite a lot psychologically to recover from, never mind surgically. Next, a revision neck lift 2 years out is unusual. Typically, p…
What oil should I use 5 months after hair transplant?
What oil should I use 5 months after hair transplant?
May 5, 2019
At 5 months after transplant, you should resume all normal activities with your scalp including regular shampoo and hair conditioning products. Your doctor will advise you about topical minoxidil or finasteride for example but otherwise, treat your hair as you normally would. Start to enjoy!I wish you success!- Eric T. Carniol, MD @drericcarniol
If most males in my family haven’t had extreme hairloss, would it be safe to get a hair transplant
Family history of hairloss, what to do?
May 5, 2019
At this point, it is very important to stabilize your hair supply. Prevention can be the key for younger patients. You should see a hiarloss expert to discuss treatments such as minoxidil, finasteride, laser therapy, and PRP.  If you are able to maintain your hair, you will never need a transplant!Sincerely,Eric T. Carniol, MD, @drericcarniol
Nose still leaking blood a week after my sinus surgery. Is this normal?
Nasal drip after surgery
May 5, 2019
Dear Michelle, Congratulations on your surgery. Drainage from the nose during the first 2 weeks is to be expected. Just as a drop of food coloring will turn a whole cake red for example, you should expect that your nasal mucous will have a red tinge for even several weeks. Tinge, not frank bleeding. Keeping up with the nasal care is very important to allow for healthy healing. In follow up with your surgeon, he may wish to do a “debridement” in which some of the crusts inside the nose can be…
4 months post op FUT hr transplant. Is this my final result for the scar or could it become more in
Incisional scar after transplant
May 4, 2019
Your scar will continue to mature over the first year after surgery. However, it is likely that the scar will finish at a similar point as 4 months after surgery. Follow up with your hair surgeon to discuss options for the scar. These may include excising it as part of secondary hair surgery, scar revision, partial excision of the scar, and even hair transplant into the scar. I wish you success!Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD, @drericcarniol
