Answer Snippet
Do you have to use hydroquinone before and after non-ablative laser resurfacing to get results?
Hydrquinone not typically required before or after laser skin treatment
Oct 15, 2017
It certainly does sound as if you are having a reaction to the hydroquinone and I would recommend that you stop it. In my experience about 5-10% of patients don't tolerate hydroquinone. If your physician feels strongly about pretreating then the are other hydroquinone-free alternatives such as Skin Medica's Lytera. The only patients that I recommend pretreating with hydroquinone or Lytera are darker skin types or patients with significant melasma. In short, a...
Have any doctors told their patients they can't take Arnica Montana and Bromelain before a surgery?
Arnica and Bromelian before or after surgery
May 5, 2015
As I'm sure you probably know, there has never been any scietific study to support the claims that these OTC preparations decrease postoperative swelling and/or bruising. With that said, I have many patients in my practice that take Arnica and Bromelain around the time of filler injections and after surgery. Many swear by them. I certainly don't see any harm in taking them, but that would need to be discussed with your surgeon. Good luck.
What's the best treatment for puffiness under my right eye only?
One sided eyelid puffiness
Sep 29, 2014
Mild aymmetric lower eyelid fullness is not uncommon, however your one side appears to have tissue swelling (edema) that is concerning for some underlying inflammation. Sinus disease is something that can cause this and I would recommend going for an evaluation/workup to get the problem diagnosed and treated.
How would you treat the long indented scar on my forehead from a car accident 25 years ago?
Forehead Scar Revision
Jun 4, 2014
I do think that there is siginificant mprovement that can be achieved with your forehead scars. A scar revision procedure that would involve excising the old scar and using advanced plastic closure techniques such as serial Z-plasty, geometric broken line closure could giv e you dramatic improvement in the color, countour and orientation of the scars. I will often recommend resurfacing (i.e., laser or dermabrasion) the revised scar at 8 weeks after the initial scar revision...
I wore glasses on the day I removed my splint. I noticed swelling and few dents. Did I damage my healin
Wearing Glasses After Rhinoplasty
Jun 4, 2014
If your surgeon cleared you to wear glasses after your surgery then I'm sure that the indentations are most likely due to compression of the normal postoperative edema (fluid swelling in the soft tissues) of the nasal skin. I would encorage minimizing the time that you wear the glasses or purchase very light glasses, wear contact lenses or even tape the glasses to your forehead. If the indentations persist after the soft tissue swelling has subsided, you should follow up...
What could be done to my nose in order to better my profile?
Difficult to answer
Jun 4, 2014
The posted photos make it difficult to really appreciate your nasal anatomy. I would recommend you schedulde a consultation with a rhinoplasty expert to voice your concerns and then allow the surgeon evaluate you in order to determine what could be done to address your concerns.
Why hasn't the skin around my eyes peeled after a chemical peel yet?
Lower eyelid skin after a chemical peel
Apr 7, 2014
After a full face chemical peel, it is not unusual for the skin in different areas of the face to peel at different times. When the skin begins to slough off, can also vary with the type and depth of the peel. I typically inform patients that most areas should begin peeling by day 4 after the procedure. The most imprortant thing to do is to keep the treated skin moist and covered with ointment thus providing the optimal healing environment.
How long does it usually take for bruising under eyes after rhinoplasty to go away?
Bruising after rhinoplasty
Apr 7, 2014
I typically cousel rhinoplasty patients that the bruising can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Cool compresses that were used for the first 3 days after surgery can be switched to warm compresses after postop day 7. This increases blood flow to the area and can "wash" away the bruisng a day or so more quickly. With that said, I would recommend being evaulated by your surgeon and asking him/her is this practice would be appropriate for you.
Hypertrophic Scar Still Red 5 Weeks After CO2 Laser Resurfacing. Will the Redness Go Away?
Skin redness after laser resurfacing to slowly resolve
May 3, 2011
I routinely tell my patients to expect skin redness for up to 3 months after laser or chemical peel resurfacing.

The are steroid creams and other topical medications that your doctor can prescribe to help speed up the resolution of the redness.

True inflammation and raising of the scar is not always expected at 5 weeks out and should be brought to the attention of your doctor.

Is the Position of Earlobes Changed After Face and Neck Lift?
Ear lobe changes after facelift
Apr 25, 2011
Ear lobe position can change after a facelift.  If re-piercing the lobe does not help with earring symmetry then a small in-office procedure can help reposition them.

Ear soreness and numbness after a facelift should gradually resolve during the first year.
