What is the recommended procedure for dark reticular veins around the eyes?
Periocular reticular veins
Jun 17, 2021
Jun 17, 2021
These are removed by sclerotherapy, as are reticular veins elsewhere on the body. I have not found any vascular laser (including 1064nm YAG) to consistently provide permanent removal.
What is the best treatment for over all redness and a few raised broken capillaries?
Treatment for dilated ‘broken’ capillaries
Apr 15, 2021
Apr 15, 2021
The most effective treatment for dilated capillaries, cherry hemangiomas and other red vascular lesions is a dedicated vascular laser (KTP 532nm, PDL 585nm); these are significantly more effective than IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) devices, which are used for a variety of uses including red lesions, dilated capillaries, brown patches, hair removal. However, although used for many types of skin changes, IPL is far less effective than dedicated lasers that are used only for vascular lesions or…

Venous Lake treatment
Apr 15, 2021
Apr 15, 2021
Venous lakes are very common on the lips (and helices of the ears). They appear as blue or purple papules (bumps). I have found that simple electrocoagulation is more efficient and effective than the vascular lasers that we have available. The lips are very forgiving areas to treat and scarring is rarely observed.
I’ve had 5 sclerotherapy treatments for my chest and shoulder veins with minimal results. Next steps?
Sclerotherapy for prominent veins on the chest
Apr 15, 2021
Apr 15, 2021
Sclerotherapy is the most effective method to treat these prominent reticular veins on the chest. If veins persist after treatment – whether on the chest or elsewhere – then there was not sufficient alteration by the solution to the vein wall for the body to initiate its absorption and ultimate removal. Veins should require just one treatment for their removal by sclerotherapy.
What type of treatment would I need for my varicose vein on my leg that is caused by pregnancy?
Treatment for Varicose Veins on the back of the thigh
Apr 15, 2021
Apr 15, 2021
The Varicose Veins that are present in the photo on the back of the thigh should respond promptly and permanently to Sclerotherapy. Varicose Veins of the vulva during pregnancy are often associated with Varicose Veins of the upper inner – and back of the – thigh.
Even if treated, other Varicose Veins can develop in the future, especially with subsequent pregnancies. If this is a problem, duplex ultrasound examination should be performed to determine if there is any venous reflux, i.e.,…

Will an IPL device work on my skin if the hair follicles are inflamed and/or I have multiple ingrown ha
IPL on inflamed skin and IPL for hair removal
Apr 15, 2021
Apr 15, 2021
In general, any light-based treatments (IPL or laser) are best done on non-inflamed skin. Whatever needs to be done to minimize inflammation should be undertaken prior to treatment.
Hair removal is usually much more successful and efficient (fewer treatments) with laser than with IPL. Lasers used for hair removal are engineered specifically for this task. IPL devices are used for a variety of purposes but are not specific for most.

Prominent veins on hands & foot. What are the treatments to be followed?
Prominent veins of the hand and foot
Dec 15, 2014
Dec 15, 2014
Prominent veins of the hands and feet are common – and normal – especially in those who have little subcutaneous adipose tissue (fat); it is likely familial. I would not recommend treatment to remove any of these nromal veins in someone who is 22 years of age.David Green, M.D., F.A.A.D.Dermatology & Phlebology, Bethesda, MD
