Bring Photos for Rhinoplasty Consultation
It is helpful to bring photographs of yourself and other noses to a consultation. This helps the surgeon understand what your desires are. However the ability of a nose to transform into a exact desired shape is non existent.
You can try to get close to it but the scarring and healing process can make the eventual result different than what you anticipated.
You should be very clear in your communication with the doctor. A lot of times disappointment happens as a result of mis communication. So write down what exactly you are looking for and give it to your doctor. (Tanveer Janjua, MD, Bedminster Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Yes it is always a good idea to bring pictures of your desired nose. Long, chubby noses can be made smaller and more defined. There are limitations to any rhinoplasty procedure. The best way to figure out what can be done is to have computer imaging. This will allow the surgeon and yourself to come to a mutual agreement of what your nose will look like after the surgery. (Oleh Slupchynskyj, MD, FACS, New York Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Pictures of desired noses to rhinoplasty consultation
Ditto to Drs Gunter and Rohich, I can not add more. Enough of the posting docs have addressed your question. Go get 3 opinions, make sure you understand all the options in your informed consent. (Darryl J. Blinski, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Computer imaging better than random photo
I prefer video imaging of the patient to educate rather than a random photo. The photography is not with some value, but really is on a face with different features. There are mathematical proportions that define an attractive nose and these are plugged into the video imaging. Almost always, the patients like what they see.
As regards size, there are limits to what the surgeon can do. The skin envelope can only accommodate so much decrease in structural support. After this is begins to gather up an obscure changes.
Again, I think video imaging and examples of real patients is an excellent way to get a patient to understand what is accomplishable. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Rhinoplasty Consultation for Nasal Surgery
During the initial consultation for rhinoplasty, you should become acquainted with your plastic surgeon and establish an honest rapport about acheivable aesthetic and functional goals of surgery. Bringing pictures out of magazines is critical during the consultation and I always recommend patients to do so during their consultation with me. (Raffy Karamanoukian, MD, FACS, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
Bring Photos /Questions to your Rhinoplasty consult
I find it helpful when patients come informed with questions. and photos of what they like and dont like about their nose. I like patients who know what they want and can list the things about their nose they would like to have improved. In the end, it is always important to listen to the patient concerns especially when you are considering changing their nasal shape.
The nose is the most prominent aspect of your face so you have to make sure you restore or maintain nasal/facial harmony to prevent the “over-operated nose” look. Rhinoplasty is the most difficult facial cosmetic procedure and is indeed a surgery of millimeters . (Rod J. Rohrich, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
Should I bring pictures to a rhinoplasty consultation?
This is a good idea if you take realistic photos. Patients often bring photos of attractive models but their noses are not similar. This usually means they are looking at the overall facial appearance and not the similarities of the nose. If you take photos, make certain all the noses look the same. (Jack P. Gunter, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
Bringing a picture can help you and your surgeon decide what is and is not realistic
Rhinoplasty is one of the most intricate facial plastic surgeries. The surgeon needs to create a nose that is cosmetically suited to the face and at the same time is functional as a part of respiratory system. It is possible to create a feminine nose that is functional but not all surgeons have the proper training and skills to accomplish that. Best is to consult with at least three specialists and gather all the information. Speak to as many past patients as possible. (Amir Moradi, MD, San Diego Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Bringing photographs to your Rhinoplasty consultation
Information is key to a good rhinoplasty consultation. In addition to bringing photographs of noses that you are interested in, we will be taking photographs, and using a computer imaging system to demonstrate the changes that are possible. Both are tools to educate the patient as to what is possible to achieve for the patient. If the results are not enough to satisfy the patient – that I do not recommend having surgery. (Richard Greco, MD, Savannah Plastic Surgeon)
Pictures at Rhinoplasty Consultation
Bringing pictures to your rhinoplasty consultation is a good way to visually describe what features you like. It is an excellent technique to help the surgeon discuss what can and what cannot be done with your nose. A good surgeon will strive to make your nose proportional to other aesthetic features of your face, not duplicate somebody else’s nose. (Richard W. Fleming, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Rhinoplasty consultation
Every doctor’s approach is different but in my practice, I recommend that patients bring pictures of noses the like and do not like. This does not mean that I can “give” them the nose they like. What it does for me is help me understand my patent’s aesthetic perspective. I can also see if their vision is realistic given my ability and their baseline anatomy. I also use photo-imaging but not all doctors have this.
The real key is the communication between your expectations and what the doctor can do. (Michael Kulick, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
