Some surgeons routinely employ the use of packing, or plastic nasal stents, after surgery. Packing does prevent one from breathing, certainly. There is always a certain amount of scarring that develops after rhinoplasty. The amount differs from patient to patient, and from case to case. After a year and a half, while there still may be some improvement over time, but it will not be much. We have been very happy with the longterm outcomes of finely diced cartilage dorsal augmentation. We find it to be more reliable, overall, than en bloc cartilage onlay grafts. In reality, there is no perfect rhinoplasty graft - and so there is variation in outcomes.

The best way to think about rhinoplasty is that it can help to make your nose look better than it looks today. Obtaining a perfect nose, or your "dream nose" is not typically possible. I see no reason why you couldn't get nice improvement.

We generally feel that proceeding with nasal surgery is safe at your age. A rule of thumb often used is that a female patient should be at least 15 years of age, while a male patient should be at least 17 years of age.In reality, there can be exceptions - in either direction. Just keep in mind that the decision to pursue nasal surgery is a serious one. So it may make sense to get multiple opinions.
