How common are irregularities in the incision for upper eyelid surgery? Slow healing, bumps etc
Healing and recovery after upper blepharoplasty
Jul 6, 2017
Thank you for your question. Generally scar complications with upper blepharoplasty are very low. The eyelid skin tends to heal very well with a low risk of hypertrophic scar and keloid formation. Small lumps and bumps can occur, however these typically resolve over the course of a few weeks without intervention. In the event that they persist, they are typically easily managed. I recommend you consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon, or oculoplastic sur…
Third & final opinion. Lower bleph with or without fat transfer?
Transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty with fat repositioning
Jul 6, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting your photo. More photos showing oblique and side (profile) views would be helpful.
With the caveat that a formal recommendation can only be made after in-person consultation, based upon your photo I would likely recommend transconjunctival (incision behind the eyelid) lower blepharoplasty with fat transposition. During fat transposition, instead of removing fat from the medial and central compartments, this fat is moved (transposed) into the te…
22 year old black male. Embarrassed my hair is thinning and hairline receding. What are my options? (
Hair transplant at 22 years old
Jul 6, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos. You are fortunate that your hairline has not significantly receded. Prevention/reduction of future  hair loss is a critical component in managing androgenetic alopecia in young individuals. Medical and non-surgical management with Propecia (finasteride) and low level laser therapy (LLLT) are excellent options for this. Hair restoration surgery certainly could be performed. If this is done, it is critical to be conservative and avoid ove…
Are there better techniques for incisions to avoid complications in upper eyelid surgery?
Optimizing incisions and technique in upper blepharoplasty
Jul 6, 2017
Thank you for your question. This is very commonly asked by patients during consultation. When performing upper blepharoplasty we measure the distance of the upper lid crease on both sides and generally place the lower part of the incision in the crease. We take great care to ensure symmetry of both eyes. There are exceptions to this, namely if someone has an overly high or overly low crease and there are also special considerations for men and women and also ethnic considerations. In p…
Is FUE an option for Alopecia (non universal) patients? What are the success rates for women FUE cand
FUE for female hair loss
Apr 25, 2017
Thank you for your question. Assuming you have female androgenetic alopecia (female pattern hair loss) and not autoimmune, fibrosing, or scarring hair loss then yes FUE is an excellent option. We commonly perform FUE and strip procedures on our female patients. An in person consultation is necessary to determine whether you are a candidate for hair transplantation. During your consultation, your surgeon will take a detailed history, perform a physical exam, and determine the best tre…
What to do about my bags under my lower eyelids?
Lower blepharoplasty to address lower lid fat pseudoherniation, tear troughs and under eye hollows
Apr 10, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos.  It would be helpful to see photos from the front looking straight ahead, obliques (45 degrees from center), and from the sides (profile).  Based on what I can see in your photo, you are likely a good candidate for lower blepharoplasty.  There are two options for surgically addressing the lower eyelids – transconjunctival and subciliary.  A transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty places the incision on the inside/behind the eyelid.  A subc…
How do you determine if a platysmaplasty is needed when performing a facelift?
Plastysmaplasty performed during facelift
Apr 9, 2017
Thank you for your question. Platysmaplasty is commonly performed as part of a facelift (which treats the lower face and neck) and necklift. While facelift and necklift can be performed without platysmaplasty, if there is significant platysmal banding, laxity, and/or redundancy then performing platysmaplasty is an important component of of surgery. The best way to determine whether you will need platysmaplasty to achieve your desired results is to consult with a board certified facial pl…
Risks and downtime for transconjunctival blepharoplasty in 26 year old female?
Transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty – risks, downtime, and recovery
Apr 8, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos.Based upon your photos you have several options to treat your lower eyelids. Injectable filler can camouflage the transition of the lower eyelid and cheek junction and fill the tear troughs. I prefer to use Restylane under the eyes.Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is also an option. You appear to have some early pseudo-herniation of orbital fat. You are an excellent candidate for transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty with fat re-positioning. …
I’m scared to use Rogaine because people say it makes your hair fall out?
Will Rogaine cause hair to fall out?
Apr 8, 2017
Thank you for your question. This is a very common concern among patients.Hair goes through a defined cycle of growth (Anagen), rest (catagen), and shedding (telogen). Any treatment option that promotes growth (Rogaine, Propecia, laser therapies) will cause the hair in rest and shedding phase to be accelerated through those phases so that the follicle is in growth phase.Androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) results in premature disruption/termination of growth phase. This is acc…
How long should it take surgically for a brow lift, a lower face lift and a neck lift?
Amount of time to perform a browlift, lower face, and neck lift
Apr 7, 2017
Great question, thank you for posting. Every surgeon will vary to some degree in the amount of time it takes to perform these procedures. This is largely dependent upon technique – i.e. what type of brow lift and what type of lower face and neck lift they are performing. More aggressive procedures tend to take more time, while less aggressive procedures tend to take less time. In general, anywhere from three to six hours depending on the technique used. I recommend that you focus on results …
Can I get my crooked nose and uneven nostril fixed?
Rhinoplasty to reduce dorsal hump, straighten the nose, refine and lift the tip
Apr 3, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos with multiple views.
Based upon your photos you are an excellent candidate for a rhinoplasty to reduce the dorsal hump (bump on the top of the nose), osteotomies to straighten the nasal bones, suture technique and likely cartilage grafting to straighten the dorsal (top) septum and tip, and suture technique with possible cartilage grafting to refine the tip and rotate (lift) the tip. You likely also need a septoplasty to straighten the nasal …
Neck lift/lower face lift surgeons in North Carolina?
Facelift and necklift to address jowling and neck laxity
Mar 30, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos. Based on your photos you are an excellent candidate for a facelift, which will address the lower face and neck. Incisions are made in front of the ears, around the earlobes, behind the ears, into the hairline behind the ears, and also a small incision under the chin. These are designed such that they are hidden in the natural contours of the face and neck, thereby camouflaging the resultant scars.
The deep tissue layer of the face (SMAS) …

Rhinoplasty and likely septoplasty to reduce dorsal hump, straighten the nose, and refine the tip
Mar 30, 2017
Thank you for your question and for posting photos. Based on the limited views from your photos, you are a great candidate for a rhinoplasty to reduce the dorsal hump, straighten the nasal bones and dorsal (top) septum, and refine/narrow the tip. Determining the need for a septoplasty can really only be accomplished during in person consultation with examination of the inside of the nose. Tip plasty alone will likely result in disharmony of the appearance of the tip in relation to the rest…
I would like to know if hairline surgery will work for me?
Surgical hairline lowering
Mar 27, 2017
Thank you for your question and for sharing photos. Based on your photos, you appear to be an excellent candidate for surgical hairline lowering.  This can be thought of as a brow lift (forehead lift) in reverse. An incision is made along the hairline, the scalp is undermined (elevated), skin below this is removed, and the scalp/hairline is advanced forward/down. The amount of advancement that can be achieved will depend upon the amount of scalp laxity (looseness) after undermining.

Upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty and brow lift to rejuvenate the eyes
Mar 19, 2017
Based upon your photo, you are an excellent candidate for upper and lower blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the eyes.
During upper blepharoplasty, excess skin and occasionally muscle and fat are removed to improve the contour of the upper eyelids.
Lower blepharoplasty may be performed in several different ways. The transconjunctival approach places the incision behind the eyelid. While the transcutaneous approach (also known as subciliary approach) places the incision on the outside of the ey…
