Am I a candidate for revision nose surgery after my nose tip developed a dent?
Am I a candidate for revision rhinoplasty?
Feb 26, 2020
Hi lillybell, Sorry you’ve had an unsatisfactory result. Without other views, it is hard to give you a complete picture. The dip above your tip is likely from having reduced the bridge excessively with respect to the tip. It certainly looks like your tip is quite full and rounded. We cannot know without examining you whether this is cartilage fullness or scar tissue that has formed. Either way, you are definitely a candidate for a revision procedure. If you cannot reach a consensus with y…
What are other ways to narrow my nasal bones, aside from osteotomy?
Osteotomies in Rhinoplasty
Feb 20, 2020
Hi Bree,When it comes to complex rhinoplasty questions, Google is not often your friend. There are few hard and fast rules when it comes to rhinoplasty and some techniques will work better for a patient with one type of anatomy and not as well for others. In some East Asian patients, the nasal bones are very short and wide, making osteotomies more difficult and unlikely to be effective. In these cases, building bridge height (preferably with cartilage) is the better option. In other Asian p…
Can a rhinoplasty cause nerve damage that permanently changes your smile?
Risk of nerve damage to upper lip from rhinoplasty
Feb 14, 2020
Hi there, you can be assured that permanent damage to the nerves or muscles of the upper lip is not a risk from rhinoplasty. That said, it very common for there to be temporary swelling and reduced lifting of the upper lip when smiling along with numbness of your nasal tip. This usually takes about 4-6 weeks to resolve.
Should I get surgery to make nose smaller & lips bigger?
Creating more facial harmony with rhinoplasty
Feb 14, 2020
Hi Cecilia, you are a very good candidate for rhinoplasty. You have what is called a tension septum where the lower part of your septum is a little over-developed, pushing your tip down and giving the appearance of a bump. This also tends to make the tip look overly rounded and shows up mostly on the profile view. The goal of rhinoplasty in your case is usually to make your tip the high point of your nose along with making it slightly more defined. This can absolutely be achieved. Go see…
Is this a realistic rhinoplasty goal?
Realistic rhinoplasty goals
Feb 14, 2020
The morph you are showing is what we would call a finesse rhinoplasty. Small changes involving some tip refinement, nostril narrowing, and correction of a slight hanging columella can add up to a very meaningful change. These are all achievable goals. Consult with a rhinoplasty specialist who can do some computer imaging from all views and show you in detail what such a procedure can accomplish. All the best.
Rhinoplasty. Are my expectations realistic?
Do I have realistic expectations?
Feb 14, 2020
From the photos you sent, you appear to be a great candidate for rhinoplasty based on your goals. I would agree that your tip and perhaps even nostrils appear too wide and boxy for your face. Your bridge is slightly crooked and a little high. You have a little columellar hang and nostril show. So, I would say that your assessment is on point. You do not need to fear having a short, upturned piggy nose. This is perhaps a risk for some based on the way some surgeons do tip work but need not be…
Retracted columella, acute labial angle, long philtrum. Can rib cartilage to extend columella be used
Treatment of Columellar Retraction
Feb 14, 2020
Hi Tony, Yes, you can treat columellar retraction with grafting. We often use a septal extension graft to build the septum forward and give a strong anchor point on which to anchor the columellar and preserve the length that is achieved. This can be accomplished with septal cartilage, if present, or rib cartilage. A deep or acute nasolabial angle can be filled with either non-surgical fillers or with cartilage graft as part of a surgical procedure. See a rhinoplasty specialist who can do …
Can I make my nose larger through rhinoplasty?
Adding a hump with rhinoplasty
Feb 14, 2020
Hi Adriana, I sympathize with your desire to add some dimension to your nose. You certainly can add height to your nose with dorsal grafting. Most cartilage grafts, such as rib cartilage, will tend to do better at creating a straighter profile. Creating a hump is more challenging as it can be difficult to recreate the edges and topography that characterizes a nose with a natural hump, but it certainly can be approached. Non-surgical techniques will be even less likely to create a true hump …
Osteotomy technique during rhinoplasty?
How are osteotomies done?
Feb 14, 2020
Yes, surgeons use an osteotome, a chisel-like instrument to make a controlled fracture of the nasal bones. There are various ‘styles’ of the instrument depending on the specific goal or technique used. This is often thought of as a simple procedure, but it actually one of the more difficult technical aspects of rhinoplasty as it relies on a back fracture or break in the bones that is not perfectly within the surgeon’s control. For that reason, many techniques have been established in an e…
Is it possible to make the transition from my forehead to my radix smoother?
Smoothing the nasofrontal angle
Feb 10, 2020
You can reduce the depth of the nasofrontal angle with a rhinoplasty. Addressing your specific issue may involve adding some volume to the radix area or reducing the muscle volume in the glabella area above the radix. Volume may be added surgically or even non-surgically with filler. A profile view will be helpful to make the best recommendation for your specific case.
My nose is very asymmetrical, will it be able to be fixed?
Fixing an asymmetrical nose
Jul 27, 2018
Hi hayslees,Many of the asymmetries you are seeing can be corrected through rhinoplasty. You can also address the size of your nose. I would encourage you to see an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon to discuss your concerns in more detail, including your concern that your nose is too big which can relate to the tip width, nostril width, and tip projection. You can then come up with a plan that makes sense for you. Wishing you all the best in your journey.
Can I have rhinoplasty after I had cheek and under eye fillers?
Rhinoplasty and Fillers
Jul 24, 2018
Hi. It is not a problem to do rhinoplasty and under eye or cheek fillers at the same time. For a more permanent filling option, you may want to talk with your surgeon about the potential benefits of fat transfer vs. filler. All the best.
Rhinoplasty 7 years ago, tip now shifting? Revision rhinoplasty worth it or high risk? Nervous for ano
Is Revision Rhinoplasty worth it?
Jun 14, 2018
In the photos you attached, it is evident that the tip cartilage is twisting, causing the asymmetry that you’re seeing. It’s not possible to comment on the reason or the potential fix based on photos. I would advise seeing an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon (or your original surgeon if you have a good relationship) and getting a more in depth opinion. While there is a small amount of risk inherent to any procedure, there should be no reason to expect that the concern can’t be resolved with a…
