Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty
Sep 24, 2020
Refining the tip of the nose and reducing the dorsal hump can be performed simultaneously. It can be performed through an open approach (leaving a small scar beneath the nose) or through a closed approach (no external scars), depending on the comfort level of your surgeon. As always, it is important to personally consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Rhinoplasty
Do I need a complete rhinoplasty or just tip plasty?
Rhinoplasty
Sep 22, 2020
It is relatively rare to need "just" a tip-plasty. Reducing or recontouring the nasal tip can make minor irregularities above the tip more noticable. This does not mean that structures above the tip always need major changes. In your case, tip refinements may exaggerate the prominence of the bridge of your nose. As always, it is important to personally discuss these issue with a board certified Plastic Surgeon, who specializes in Rhinoplasty.
What difficulties does a nose like mine present for a rhinoplasty/septoplasty/turbinate reduction? (P
Rhinoplasty Options
Sep 9, 2020
You have definately done your research! There are several problems that contribute to a wide alar base: distance between the nostrils, shape, and length of the nostrils. All require slightly different treatments. Photos from beneath the nose are helpful to deliniate this. You appear to have a septal deviation, which contributes to the asymmetry of the nostrils and nasal tip. This type of septal deviation, in combination with the need for complex tip refinement may be best treated with an...
Is it possible to reuse or reshape a high radix? Can you therefore change the side profile without th
Changing the bridge of the nose
Sep 3, 2020
The radix can lowered and the lip-to-nose junction can be modified without disturbing the rest of the nose. In your case, it may be possible to reshape the radix without any osteotomies (breaking the nasal bones). In which case, there is less downtime, swelling, and bruising. This can all be performed through a closed approach (no external scars) or an open approach (leaving a small scar on the columella), depending on your surgeons preference. As always, it is important to personally...

Nasal shape and skin texture
Aug 29, 2020
Management of the size of your nose can be treated with modification of the underlying bone and cartilage with a Rhinoplasty procedure. This can be done through the traditional open (leaving a small scar beneath the nasal tip) or closed approach (no external scars), depending on the comfort and experience of your surgeon. Acheiving a better skin texture can be accomplished with chemical peels, dermabrasion, and/or laser therapy. Ideally, the optimal skin texture should be acheived prior to...
Advice about septal tear and weak / collapsing nostril?
Septal repair
Aug 29, 2020
A septal tear (perforation) can occur after any nasal injury or surgery. Perforations are nortiously difficult to repair. The location of the perforation is very important. If it is anterior (front) or along the top, the result can be nasal collapse. If it is in the center, the most common result is chronic crusting or a sensation of nasal congestion. The options for repair are very different based on the location and the size of the perforation. If the perforation is in the center,...
Is it possible to derotate the tip of the nose?
Nasal tip rotation after jaw surgery
Aug 24, 2020
Jaw (particularly upper) surgery can change the appearance of the nose in an often unpredictable way. Nevertheless, the nasal tip can be rotated to a more desirable position. Without photos, it is difficult to predict the extent of surgery needed. Regardless, the position of the jaws can change over time after surgery. It would be important to wait until the position is stable. As always, it is important to personally consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Rhinoplasty.
Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty? I'm a little self conscious about my nose. I wish it was a lit
Shortening the nose in Rhinoplasty
Aug 20, 2020
Your nose can be shortened during Rhinoplasty. In the process, it can make the tip more petite and well-defined if you wish. This can be acheived through an closed approach (no external scars) or the traditional open approach, depending on the comfort and experience of your surgeon. As always, it is important to personally consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Rhinoplasty
Can a rhinoplasty to fix a dorsal hump also fix my nose sticking out so far?
Nasal tip projection
Aug 20, 2020
The projection of the nasal tip can be addressed at the time of removal of the dorsal hump. You are correct that the tip can appear more projected after dorsal hump removal if it is not treated. It can be an illusion, without the dorsal hump, the eye is drawn to the tip of the nose. Without the excess above, the tip looks more projected. It is important that you communicate your concerns with your surgeon. As always, it is important to consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who...
Rhinoplasty/Nose Job: Why do most surgeons avoid deprojecting the nose?
Change in nasal projection
Aug 6, 2020
Changing the projection of the nose is not the difficult part. The difficulty lies in obtaining stable, long-term results. In order to de-project the nose, cartilage must be removed or repositioned. These maneuvers can destabilize the nasal tip support and lead to more deprojection than anticipated in the long-term. As always, it is important to consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Rhinoplasty.
Can I get an alarplasty? I have had a rhinoplasty before, I am two years post op
Alarplasty
Aug 6, 2020
Narrowing the nostril width is surprisingly complicated for obtaining stable, long-term results. Nevertheless, narrowing your nostril width is attainable. However, it may also require some modification of the nasal tip. There is a complex relationship between the support mechanisms of the nasal tip and the structure of the nostrils. As always, it is important that you consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Rhinoplasty.
Does it look like I have medium or thin skin thickness? I want to deproject and refine my tip.
Skin thickness in Rhinoplasty
Aug 6, 2020
You are absolutely right, skin thickness dramatically affects rhinoplasty. From your photos, you appear to have a medium skin thickness. This type of skin is ideal for rhinoplasty, as it allows for precise results after cartilage manipulation. It lends itself well to tip definement and change in projection. As always, it is important that you consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty.
How can rhinoplasty help my nose? I think it should be smaller?
Rhinoplasty
Jul 31, 2020
Beautiful baby!I believe the feeling of an oversized nose is primarily due to the tip of the nose. The cartilages of the nasal tip look a bit overdeveloped and somewhat bulbous. Trimming the lower lateral cartilages can result in a more petite and well-defined tip. It can also decrease the projection. Conservative reshaping of the nasal bones would also be required to give a softer appearance and more natural transition from the bridge to the tip. This can be performed via an open or closed...
Do I need a lift? How many ccs do I need to avoid the lift?
Breast augmentation with or without lift
Jul 15, 2018
The sizes that you discussed should give you the size that you are looking for. I think that you are unlikely to need a lift unless you are concerned with your nipple position. You appear to have some asymmetry in the nipple position. Addressing this would require a limited lift (mastopexy) procedure. This is likely why you have heard differing recommendations.
Is it possible for nipples to be centered with breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation and nipple position
Jul 15, 2018
Breast augmentation alone will often exaggerate the appearance of abnormal nipple position. A "donut" mastopexy may help with change of the nipple position during your augmentation. This leaves a scar around the areola. As always, it is important to personally consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in augmentation procedures.
