I had a Rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago and concerned about dr advice. Any suggestions?
Massage can be very helpful
Jun 3, 2016
Crooked noses are difficult to address and the nose will have a tendency to drift back slightly to its preoperative side. Massage can be very helpful in these cases. The swelling on the side of the nose can be one sided and cause the nose to look crooked. At 3 weeks most of the swelling should be gone. It never hurts to see someone else as a second opinion to make sure that the nose is healing well. I would revisit your surgeon and bring up your concerns.
Nasal Birth Trauma.. I'm 18, is there any way I can have this fixed?
Nasal Trauma
Jan 15, 2016
Insurance may cover the surgery if it is from a trauma, but you may also be covered under insurance for the breathing issues. Your nasal bridge may be smaller from the trauma and straightening the nose may include augmentation of the nasal dorsum. If the problem is mostly cosmetic it may not be covered by insurance. Your best bet is to be evaluated by a surgeon that performs rhinoplasty regularly and has good reviews.

Rhinoplasty after Nasal Fillers
Jul 17, 2015
A consultation can certainly be done after having the fillers despite the Radiesse injection. Depending on how much Radiesse was injected they may need to wait for the filler to dissolve before performing the surgery. Sometimes the residual filler can be dissolved with Hyaluronidase if it was recently injected.
What's the best type of treatment for under eye and side of eye wrinkles when smiling?
Treating under eye wrinkles
Apr 28, 2015
Under eye wrinkles are a common complaint and one with many different types of solutions. Contributors to under eye wrinkles can sagging cheeks, weakness of the tissues around the eye, and loss of skin volume. Improving the hydration of the skin can improve small wrinkles and any eye moisturizer cream will help with that. In addition many patients do well with a small amount of filler to the cheeks and under eye area. The fillers will help add volume to the skin and stretch out the wrinkles...

Fillers after chin implant
Oct 30, 2014
Fillers can be easily done after a chin implant. Autologous fat transfer may last longer but the results are less predictable and not easily reversed if you don't like the results. You could switch out the implant for a larger one which would provide you with long lasting predictable results.

Rasping down a dorsal hump under local
Oct 30, 2014
While this can be done under local relatively quickly, the length of the procedure should not be the major consideration. The most important factor is that the procedure is done well and that you are satisfied with the results. Sometimes during a procedure to correct a small deformity issues can arise that necessitate more time or a different approach. While it may be something that could be done under local and shouldn't take very long, I would be hesitant to make a decision on those...
Which is the best effective crow's feet treatment before any injections?
Treatment for crow's feet and periocular rhytids
Oct 30, 2014
There are many options to treat the wrinkles at the outer corners of your eyes. Without pictures or seeing you in person, it is impossible to tell which may be the best for you. Treatments for this area can include laser skin resurfacing, RF treatment, HA fillers and neurotoxins like Botox. It is a common problem area and one that should be treatable without resorting to extremely invasive means. I also think that using a needle to inject an area does not necessarily make it less risky than...

Crusting after turbinate surgery
Oct 30, 2014
Crusting is very common after turbinate surgery. It is extremely common to have dryness accompany this. Your surgeon can remove these crusts in the office, although not every surgeon does this as it can increase bleeding. I often recommend for my patients to start a salt water nasal rinse after this type of surgery to cut down on the crusting and dryness.
Nasal valve stenosis
Nasal valve stenosis after septoplasty
Oct 28, 2014
Nasal valve stenosis is a very common source of nasal obstruction after septoplasty. Without pictures it is impossible to tell if you would need rib cartilage to reconstruct the nose. I usually use rib cartilage in noses that are graft depleted (which yours may be if you have had 2 prior septoplasties) or noses that have been over-resected. If you continue to have nasal obstruction, an objective evaluation in person is needed. I recommend visiting with several surgeons to discuss what...
Is septoplasty required twice?
Persistent nasal obstruction after septoplasty
Oct 28, 2014
In general a septoplasty should not need to be performed twice unless it was incompletely done. Occasionally the septum can change over time. A trauma to the nose could also lead the septum becoming deviated again. Other causes of persistent nasal obstruction include: untreated nasal allergies, inferior turbinate hypertrophy, and nasal valve collapse. Nasal valve collapse can worsen with time as the cartilages weaken with age. It is a very common source of persistent nasal obstruction...
What are these soft bumps on my nose?
Lower lateral cartilages are a common cause of nasal deformity.
Oct 28, 2014
Even if you have never had surgery, the nose continues to change over time. Even at a relatively young age, the nose will droop. Skin thickness can change over time and make the cartilage of the nose more noticeable. These changes in the nose can expose some of the underlying structure of the lower lateral cartilages. This can manifest as a "bumps" on the side of the lower nose. It is not uncommon for nasal valve collapse and/or deviated septum to cause nasal obstruction despite have...
Rhinoplasty under local anaesthesia?
Septoplasty under local anesthesia?
Oct 28, 2014
Septoplasty and changing the shape of the nostrils can sometimes be done under local but it is usually much more comfortable for the patient to have this done under general anesthesia. In addition, sometimes the surgery is more extensive even though it may look like a small problem. Sometimes the septum has to be addressed on the inside of the nose and a procedure done under local might not address those things or might not be tolerated by the patient. Also if for some reason, more extensive...

Open versus Closed Rhinoplasty
Oct 27, 2014
If you have an open rhinoplasty, there will be a small incision under the nose on the columella. This is the small skin bridge where the septum and medial crura come together between your nostrils. There are many variations on closed and open techniques and either one can provide an excellent result with the right surgeon. Many surgeons prefer to do an open approach for revision cases and rhinoplasties that need an extensive amount of tip work, but again that is just an observation and...
I'm unsatisfied with my nose. Can I get an alar base reduction without getting tip work done? (Pho
Alar base reduction can be performed separately.
Oct 27, 2014
Alar base reduction is a separate procedure and can be done with or without tip work. However if you are concerned about more than just the alar base and have concerns about the tip then you should wait until you are able to do everything at once. It really depends on what concerns you have about the nose and whether an alar base reduction alone would address all of your concerns.

Having a hard nasal tip 5 months after surgery can be normal.
Oct 27, 2014
Having the columella protrude on the left side could still be swelling. The firmness should continue to improve. It can improve up to a year and beyond. Having said that, the majority of the swelling should be gone by now. If you are concerned about the firmness but pleased with the overall shape and form of the nose, then I would wait. If you feel that the nose still looks swollen, I would have it evaluated by your physician.
