How long after tummy tuck do I need to walk bent over?
Post TT "hunching"
Oct 29, 2017
The need to walk hunched over is very common for several days up to several weeks for patients after tummy tuck.
At some point, you will eventually be able to walk completely upright but that may not happen right away. I recommend that my patients sleep in a recliner for several days usually at least a week postoperatively until they are comfortable standing upright. It does eventually happen. When you have the surgery your muscles are pulled together very tightly as well as your skin. Both...
Time to wait post breast augmentation before I can perform massage therapy?
Return to work/school after Breast Augmentation
Oct 4, 2017
In general, most of my patients are back to doing normal work activities 6-8 weeks following surgery. Since you will be training as a massage therapist, I would suggest one additional followup prior to beginning the course just to make sure that your doctor is happy with how your breasts are healing. Depending on whether your implants are over or under the muscle will make a difference in your recovery time and when you should be cleared for full normal activities. If you...
Is it possible I developed capsular contracture because I didn't massage my implants?
Capsule contracture 4 years after surgery
Sep 24, 2017
Capsular contracture can happen to anyone at any time post operatively. Although is is not common, I have seen more capsular contracture with textured implants placed by other physicians. I cannot definitively say whether this complication is mechanical or technical. I have not personally done a study on whether what I am seeing is related to the implant selection or the surgical technique. I generally use round smooth implants and I always have. I don't see many capsular contractures...
TT on 8/2. Having copious drainage from one spot that is not healing. I'm soaking a pad & bac
Post TT wound breakdown
Sep 24, 2017
I would definitely check in with your plastic surgeon regarding the amount of discharge you are having. You might have an underlying seroma that needs to be addressed. Just because you have drainage does not mean you have an infection so definitely check in with your doctor before starting more antibiotics. It is unlikely that your insurance will cover any wound issues associated with this surgery unless they covered the surgery itself. We carry Aesthetisure for our patients who have...
Wondering if I went too big? When will swelling go down?
Post operative swelling
Aug 26, 2017
First and foremost you have a great result. I usually try to tell patients that for the most part swelling will not go down for at least 3 months. At about 3 months your swelling should have decreased about 60 - 70%. Full healing and Final appearance will generally not be evident until somewhere between 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Based on your photos I can assure you that you do not look ridiculous. Sometimes looking in the mirror takes a little bit of an adjustment. Because what...
An area at the end of my incision is healing slowly.
Irritated incision
Aug 26, 2017
First of all let me recommend that you see your surgeon.
It sounds as though your clothing is rubbing on your incision site which can be a problem. The Neosporin can also be further irritating the area because you may have been using it too long or it is keeping your wound site too wet. Try discontinuing the Neosporin and using some sort of buffer between your wound and garments. Sometimes I recommend that patients use panty liners or maxi pads to absorb any drainage. You may want to...
Why do plastic surgeons speak negatively about extra large breast implants?
Why doctors encourage smaller implants
Aug 26, 2017
In general, I try to encourage patients to choose implants that fit their chest measurements. A lot of the implant decision-making is dependent in what a person's chest can accommodate. I have seen very short ladies easily accommodate a 600 cc implant and taller heavier ladies only fit a smaller implant. Much goes into the choice of both size and shape of implants for each individual. Many ladies want an implant that is just too large for the chest space defined by anatomy. Using an...
What are the cons of Lipo?
Post gastric Surgery liposuction
Aug 25, 2017
First of all, let me say great job on reaching a healthy weight for your height. I am sure you feel great now that you are at a good BMI! Liposuction after gastric surgery can be unpredictable for many people. Often times they have been heavy for such a long time that the skin experiences changes in elasticity which makes liposuction not a very good option. If you have good skin elasticity, liposuction should not be an issue for you provided that you are willing to wear your post-operative...
Can liposuction of small areas be done in-office under a local anesthetic? (23 yo)
Liposuction under local anesthetic
Aug 25, 2017
In short, most liposuction procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic. I personally perform all of my liposuction procedures with a tumescent solution and heavy oral sedation. I have found that my results are better when I can have the patient roll from side to side and move freely. Most patients report minimal discomfort and oftentimes will not even remember any surgical discomfort when they come in for their post-operative appointment. Oral sedation is usually all that...
Are my breasts too far apart?
Breast appearance after Augmentation
Aug 25, 2017
One thing that I try to remind all of my breast augmentation patients is that anatomy will not change after the procedure. If your breasts had a gap before your procedure they will have a gap after your procedure and it may appear more pronounced because your breasts are larger. The same is true with nipple positioning. If one nipple is higher than the other before surgery it will remain the same after surgery but maybe more noticeable given that the breasts are larger. Your breast...
5 days post-op. When can I have coffee again?
Post operative caffeine use
Aug 25, 2017
Kudos on the caffeine detox! The best answer is that you should abstain from caffeine for the rest of your life given the known health effects of excessive caffeine use. This is not a realistic expectation for anyone, me included. I love coffee. The fact that you have abstained from caffeine prior to surgery is definitely a plus for your overall health and healing. Caffeine causes blood vessel constriction and can inhibit healing. If you can stay off the caffeine for a couple more weeks you...
Breast augmentation and rhinoplasty the same day?
Breast Augmentation and Rhinoplasty together
Aug 25, 2017
The nice thing about a breast augmentation surgery is that it can often be done in conjunction with most any other procedure. The breast augmentation procedure is generally pretty short so if you need a longer procedure such as an abdominoplasty or a rhinoplasty, it is relatively easy to perform both surgeries under the same anesthesia. The longer than a patient is asleep the higher risk of anesthetic complications; however a breast augmentation procedure should generally not take any...
What could be causing the difference in shape?
Breast Augmentation and asymmetry
Aug 14, 2017
Over time our bodies change and our skin begins to lose elasticity - gravity happens. Based on your initial photos it appears that you still have a great result even though you are a few years out from your surgery. I would bet that if you reviewed your preop photos you would notice a slight asymmetry between your breasts which has now become more noticeable since 1)your breasts are larger and 2) gravity is working against us all.
I think you look great and would probably not...
Seroma 33 days after tummy tuck
Post surgical seroma
Aug 12, 2017
Drainage of a seroma is something that varies from doctor to doctor. If I have a patient that starts to develop a seroma I will usually drain it weekly until I am getting less than 25cc per aspiration. It is perfectly fine to wait and see if the body will reabsorb the fluid as well. However, some seromas will not resolve and will eventually look for a place to drain - usually the surgical incision. When this happens you essentially have to treat the open wound until it heals from the...
Cyst after 1.5 years tummy tuck.
Post operative suture erosion
Aug 12, 2017
Suture erosion can happen any time you have a surgical procedure. This is what appears to be the case per your photo. Without an exam it is not possible to determine if this is truly a stitch or some other abscess. Either way, you should at a very minimum see your pcp for exploration and drainage. It would be better to see the surgeon who did your procedure. Depending on your health status you may or may not require and antibiotic for a short time. While it is relatively uncommon to see this...
