Damage done to the nose after blowing it hard? 2 years post-op.
Nose blowing post surgery
Nov 10, 2016
I would highly doubt that you would have caused any external damage to your post surgical nose by blowing your nose. I suspect that any swelling that you see will be short lived. Best of luck.
Why do you think the results didn’t match my simulation? Is it still an improvement? THANK YOU! (Ph
Computer imaging
Nov 8, 2016
Surgeons use the computer imaging systems to discuss ideal surgical goals and express what results are reasonable to expect. It is a communication tool only. All patients should understand that what is created in a computer simulation is not a guarantee of actual surgical results. In your case, it is an improvement from your preoperative photo although you didn’t reveal how far out from surgery you are now. Remember that the final results of a rhinoplasty may not be present…
Does placing grafts at the tip of the nose make it less likely to drop?
Rhinoplasty grafts
Nov 7, 2016
Cartilaginous grafts are frequently placed in the lower third of the nose to provide structural support and contour. If you are only 2 weeks post surgery please don’t be anxious as the final results are months away. The nasal tip stays swollen longer than any other part of the nose post surgery and the final product has yet to be revealed. Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon but I would not advise another surgery at this early stage.
Was told after surgery my doctor had only used my own cartilage ect with no other foreign things to
Foreign material use in rhinoplasty
Nov 7, 2016
The short answer is yes, that is very normal. Because of its positioning on the face the nose is frequently subject to accidental trauma. The inside of our noses just like the mouth is coated with bacteria so placing a foreign implant millimeters away can result in infection and ultimately the need for the implant’s removal. Your surgeon was wise to use native cartilage which is much more resistant to the development of infection.
I would like rhinoplasty but the surgeon I asked said my nose was not a good candidate? My skin was
Rhinoplasty and skin thickness
Nov 7, 2016
Hello and thank you for your question. Skin thickness alone is not an absolute contraindication for reductive rhinoplasty if you have realistic expectations. The procedure to reduce the nasal skeleton is performed and then the existing skin must shrink to its new smaller more refined size. This takes time and is limited by skin thickness, prolonged swelling and also from the skin’s elasticity itself. Based strictly on your photos, you could probably expect some improvement in your…
I fractured my nose last month. I went to an ENT, I had a normal surgery there but it’s still crook
Post surgery nasal deviation
Nov 1, 2016
It sounds as if you had an attempt at nasal fracture reduction. If so, this is usually done shortly after the traumatic event in an effort to bring the nose back to its pretrauma form. However it is not always successful and if after the swelling has subsided your nose remains deviated then a more formal rhinoplasty will be necessary. I would discuss this with your surgeon for his opinion and recommendations.
When do most patients begin to like their nose after rhinoplasty?
Post rhinoplasty concerns
Nov 1, 2016
Having surgery to change your appearance was a big step and so it is normal to have anxieties about the results. You are in the very early stages of healing and the final results are perhaps a year away. The upper portion of the nose which is bony tends to reveal it’s results earlier than the lower cartilaginous portion of the nose. The latter relies on swelling to subside as well as the formation of scar tissue before the final results are obtained. Be patient as it is a slow process to…
Do I have a retracted columella? 3 months post-op open rhinoplasty.
Post surgery concerns
Nov 1, 2016
Thanks for your question. It is difficult to tell solely from a photograph whether or not your columella will be retracted. You are still in the early stages of scar development which ultimately shapes the lower portions of the nose. Though you should discuss your concerns with your surgeon, I think your nose is still in the healing stages. Please be patient.
Can I reduce the width of the nose without affecting the profile to much?
Changing the shape of the nose in one view only
Nov 1, 2016
That is a great question and one that requires a realistic discussion on what can and can’t be accomplished through surgery. Yes, your nose could be refined and thinned on frontal view without significantly changing your profile. However most assuredly there will be some changes, although perhaps very slight ones. How significant those changes are will be something that you have to discuss with your surgeon. Will you be happy with the results if there are minor changes? Discuss this and your…
Lowering one eyebrow with Botox?
Correcting Brow Asymmetry using Botox
Oct 28, 2016
Mild brow asymmetries can often be corrected using small doses of neurotoxins such as Botox. This is especially useful for lowering the brow by weakening the frontalis elevator muscle with the product. Eyelid droop is rarely an issue if the injections are placed well away from the orbit. It sounds like your Doc’s suggestion is very sound and reasonable.
