I'm 20 years old, 330 lbs and wondering if the gastric sleeve is a good option for me?
Addressing Morbid Obesity at a Younger Age
Jul 14, 2021
Jul 14, 2021
The most common statement I hear from my patients is "I wish I had done it sooner." As a 20 year old who is already suffering from this very complex disease, addressing the issue before is gets worse is a good plan. Even at a young age at your weight, serious health problems like high blood pressure and diabetes can begin to develop and will likely worsen with age. To know if surgery is right for you, I recommend you research bariatric surgeons in your area. Look at the reviews by their...
I'm 5’2” and 185lbs do I qualify for a gastric sleeve?
Do I Qualify for Gastric Sleeve
Feb 6, 2021
Feb 6, 2021
At 5'2" and 185 pounds, your Body Mass Index (BMI) is about 33.8. This BMI would not qualify you for surgery. If you have a BMI between 35 and 40, you can qualify if you have significant health issues related to your weight such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Obstructive Sleep Apnea as examples. If your BMI is over 40, a patient would qualify without documented health issues. If you do have major health issues, I would encourage you to have a consultation with a qualified Bariatric Surgeon and...
Is it safe to get the sleeve after 4 c-sections?
Sleeve Gastrectomy after C-Sections
Feb 6, 2021
Feb 6, 2021
Having C-Sections prior to weight loss surgery in general should have no impact on qualifying for the surgery. You would of course have to qualify related to your current weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) - in general 40+ or 35+ with serious health issues related to your weight. Also, you would need to complete a bariatric psychological evaluation and any other guidelines required by your insurance and chosen surgeon. As always, I recommend choosing a certified ASMBS surgeon with documented...
Why was Exilis on my upper legs so painful for me?
Painful Exilis on Upper Legs

Although the treatment can be very hot, the machine is completely adjustable so that each treatment can be customized to the tolerance of the patient. Unless you had some preexisting skin sensitivity which would not allow you to tolerate it even on the lowest intensity.

If I read your questions correctly, you have already had a Gastric Bypass. If this is the case, you are not eligible for any gastric balloon. It is possible you might be able to have a revision of your Bypass or you might consider a Lap Band addition to your Bypass. I recommend finding a board certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery and is part of a MBSAQIP accredited program. Good luck to you.
I'm curious about and considering a gastric balloon. Any words of wisdom?
Considering Gastric Balloon
Jan 30, 2018
Jan 30, 2018
Besides meeting the FDA recommendations - meaning you have a BMI of 30-40, haven't had prior bariatric surgery, and do not have any other conditions precluding balloon placement, I think the most important factor in success is asking yourself if you are approaching this as a tool toward a comprehensive lifestyle change. This means not only changing how you eat and exercising, but understanding biological, social and psychological factors that may have gotten you to this place...
IBS: Would I be a candidate for this surgery at 189 lbs height 5"3?
Am I A Candidate
Jan 30, 2018
Jan 30, 2018
For weight loss surgery, in general patients have a BMI (body mass index) of 40 or higher. At 5'3" and 189, your BMI is just over 33. You can search the internet for a BMI calculator if your information is different. Some insurances will approve patients with a BMI of 35 if the patient also has serious "co-morbidities" or health complications from obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. There are cash pay options for lower BMIs of 30-40...
